“The Art of Protest” is a story about hope. Protesting, using your voice, speaking up, freedom of speech - we use it because we love our country, because we want to fight for the freedoms that make this country great.
Protestors are not hateful people, if you have ever attended a protest you know the majority of these events are filled with people of all ages, families, kids getting their faces painted, grandparents handing out water & snacks, songs sung, dancing, people meeting, talking, music, laughing & making new friends. People are wonderfully creative - they dress up in various costumes, inflatable frogs & dinosaurs, hold colorful signs, march, chant & sing their hearts out. It’s a chance to meet the people we elected or want elected, to discuss the issues & shake hands. We are hopeful that things can still change for the better. No one has ever been simply given rights & freedoms, they are strived for, voted for, demanded & won.
Protest Art is a creative way to get your point across quickly in a picture/newspaper/news segment. A picture is worth a thousand words and the more clever and creative the better. People from all over the world see us protesting & know a movement is happening, that the American people are not silent about the injustice and crimes happening here, we are pushing back, we are coming together & raising our voice as one. If our voices and protests didn't work - they wouldn’t be trying so hard to silence us.
