🐾 COURTESY POST: Meet Budge! 🐾
Sometimes a dog finds you when he needs you most. ❤️
Meet Budge, a 75-pound, approximately 10-month-to-1-year-old Calahuna Leopard Dog/Great Dane mix who was found on the side of the road in Central, SC.
He was spotted nearly 10 miles away three days earlier, and after a week of nighttime storms and extreme daytime heat, Budge was still waiting on that same stretch of road, desperately hoping someone would help him. When his rescuers offered him a safe place to rest, he happily jumped right in. 🥹
They checked local lost-and-found groups, reached out to see if anyone knew him, and had him scanned for a microchip. Unfortunately, no owner came forward and no chip was found.
What they have found is one VERY big puppy with a very sweet heart. 😍
Budge is smart, eager to please, and treat motivated. He already knows sit and lay down, is learning “belly belly” (because belly rubs are obviously essential!), and is working hard on his manners with the command “down.”
He loves to:
🐾 Play fetch
🐾 Go for walks — he has GREAT leash manners!
🐾 Lounge near his people with a toy
🐾 Learn new things
🐾 Get ALL the belly scratches
He is mostly potty trained, although like any puppy, he needs frequent opportunities to go outside. He has just started crate training and is already comfortable relaxing in his crate. He does have some puppy chewing, but he is easily redirected.
Budge has a playful puppy energy, but he is surprisingly mellow for most of the day and loves hanging out with his people.
What kind of home would be best for Budge? ❤️
We’d love to see him with someone who has experience with large-breed puppies, plenty of time to continue working on his manners and training, and ideally a large, securely fenced yard where this big boy can run, play, and be a puppy.
His interactions with other dogs are still unknown. He seems unsocialized around them and can be vocal and pull toward them, so introductions will need to be handled carefully. His interactions with cats are also unknown. He has been around a child without issue, but because he is a HUGE, clumsy puppy who is still learning his manners, we aren’t recommending a home with children at this time.
Budge is currently not neutered, and his complete medical history is unknown. He is heartworm negative and up to date on all vaccines thanks to his Good Samaritans!
This boy has already come so far, and we know there is an amazing family out there who will see what we see: a giant puppy with a giant heart who just needs someone willing to keep teaching him how to be the very best dog he can be. 🥰
