❤️ **When families thrive, our communities thrive.**

A child’s success starts with more than what happens in the classroom. When families struggle to afford housing, healthcare, and other basic needs, children can face barriers to learning and reaching their full potential.

That’s why Heart of Indiana United Way takes a family-centered approach, connecting children and their grown-ups with resources that help them move forward together.

📚 Supporting early learning and literacy
💙 Building financial stability through the THRIVE Network
🏡 Helping families access housing and utility assistance
🩺 Connecting individuals to healthcare resources

Last year, **112,417 people received support** through United Way-funded programs, partnerships, and community initiatives across our five-county region. That’s roughly one in three people in our community!

You can help make an impact like this possible. **Your generosity helps local families find stability, opportunity, and hope.**

🎃 Halloween is often a time for treats, traditions, and fun. But for families struggling to afford the basics, even small seasonal extras like candy and classroom party supplies can squeeze an already tight budget.
According to the latest available United For ALICE data, 50% of children in the U.S. live in households that are either in poverty or ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) – with income above the poverty level but less than the cost of basics. And many of the workers who help make Halloween happen are ALICE themselves.
The good news? A little kindness can go a long way.
This Halloween, we're sharing simple ways to help make the holiday a little sweeter for everyone. Have another idea? Share it in the comments!

Behind every flooded home is a person. A family. A story.
Stephen’s is one of them.

When the flood displaced Stephen and his family—including his mom and his son—they lost almost everything on the first floor of their home. Shelters and local churches provided temporary places to stay, but finding stable housing quickly became an urgent need. Through it all, Stephen’s first priority was taking care of his family as they faced starting over.

Filmed in the days after the flood, Stephen’s story reminds us why this work can’t end when the cleanup does.

For families still trying to figure out what comes next, Heart of Indiana United Way and our community partners are committed to walking alongside them.

Recovery takes time. And no family should have to navigate it alone.

United is the way to help every child become a confident reader!

As the Grade-Level Reading Community Action Network (CAN) leader*, Heart of Indiana United Way brings together out-of-school partners and community literacy advocates to strengthen understanding of what it means to read at grade level and identify practical ways to improve literacy outcomes.

From playtime to everyday conversations, there are countless opportunities to build early literacy skills. By sharing strategies that make reading and learning part of everyday moments, we can empower the adults who support children and help more young learners build a strong foundation for future success.

A special thank-you to the George and Frances Ball Foundation for its continued commitment to bringing together the right combination of people, partnerships, and resources to help our community thrive. Together, we’re working to close gaps, open opportunities, and ensure more children have the support they need to succeed. ❤️
