❤️ Let's Show Up For Quincy!

Quincy just turned 18 on October 6th. He's a junior at Angoon High School, and See Stories has had the pleasure of working with him since he was in eighth grade.

Over the past four years, we've come to know Quincy as one of the kindest, most thoughtful, and most determined students we've had the privilege of working with. He's the student who arrives at school before 8 a.m., makes the rounds to say good morning to everyone, and somehow makes the whole school feel a little more welcoming.

A few weeks ago, Quincy was diagnosed with cancer. He and his family will soon travel to Seattle Children's Hospital for further testing and surgery. As they navigate this uncertain time, they're also facing the costs of travel and medical expenses.

Now, it's our turn to show up for Quincy.

We're raising funds to help ease the financial burden on Quincy and his family so they can focus on his care and recovery. Every donation makes a difference, and sharing this fundraiser is another meaningful way to help.

🎬 It's time for Movie Monday! This week we are featuring "A Legacy on the Water" a film made by Naknek student Meadow Phelps during the 2026 Currents of Connection youth media workshop in Naknek.

For the Phelps family, fishing is more than a livelihood. It’s family, culture, hard work, and a tradition they hope to carry forward for generations. In this week’s film, Naknek student Meadow Phelps shares her family’s connection to fishing and their hopes for the future of Bristol Bay.

“I want my kids and grandkids to fish. I hope that they can keep this legacy going and earn income from it. But more importantly, spend time with family.”

✨Feature Friday✨ Marie is back! And we have a special feature from her, after being officially back after 4 months away on do not disturb! From Marie to our See Stories supporters:

After four months away on sabbatical, I’ve been back at See Stories for almost a month, and I’m feeling so grateful, refreshed, and inspired.

I traveled to Kauai, San Francisco, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kodiak, and also spent a LOT of time right at home, puttering in my garden and yard, nesting, being with family, and generally losing track of what day (or time!) it was. I truly let go. My nervous system is very happy.

And I could only let go because I knew See Stories was in such good hands. I’m incredibly grateful to Seth Bader, who stepped in as Interim Executive Director, and to our amazing staff and Board. They didn’t just hold down the fort, they kept See Stories thriving through a fiscally challenging time for our organization.

Coming back, I feel a renewed sense of creativity and excitement for this work, along with a healthier sense of balance and boundaries that I didn’t realize I’d been missing.

Huge thanks to the Rasmuson Foundation for making this sabbatical possible, and to the whole See Stories crew for giving me the gift of truly stepping away.

It feels really good to be back.

See Stories is partnering with NEA-Alaska and UAA: University of Alaska Anchorage to offer an asynchronous 3-credit Alaska Studies Teacher Professional Development Course!

The course is available to all NEA- Alaska member teachers. It focuses on the Primary Source Histories of Indigenous Enslavement and Colonization in Alaska. Teachers in this course explore the history of Indigenous enslavement and colonization in Alaska through original research and primary source material. The course includes guest presentations from Alaska Native scholars and culture bearers, historians, archivists, and educators.
