See Stories is looking for a Development & Grants Manager to join our team and help support the continued growth of our work across Alaska.

This new, full-time position will work closely with our Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, donors, funders, and partners. The role is split between development and fundraising and grants administration, with opportunities to help shape and grow See Stories’ long-term development strategy.

We’re looking for someone who is a strong communicator, collaborative thinker, and creative problem solver, with experience in fundraising, donor relations, grantsmanship, or related areas. Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who cares about the relationship-centered, place-based work we do with communities across Alaska.

✨Feature Friday ✨

This summer, See Stories has partnered with the Angoon Community Association (ACA), the tribe in Angoon, to help document the ACA’s new tribally-led Subsistence Monitoring Project. The ACA has been working to collect samples of shellfish, lichen, fish, berries and other traditional subsistence foods around Angoon. These samples are being analyzed for any pollutants that could pose environmental or health risks to the community in Angoon.

See Stories is thrilled to support this initiative! We have hired 3 youth media interns-Nadine, Angel, and Lisa- who have each participated in years of See Stories workshops at Angoon High School- to film subsistence gathering events, gather broll, and conduct interviews to later make films that will tell the story of the monitoring program. It is heartwarming to see youth See Stories has worked with for years to step into changemaking roles into their communities. Check out some photos from this project here. ✨Feature Friday✨ A week of learning, storytelling, & connection: NAFWS Alaska Summer Youth Practicum

Last month, See Stories collaborated with the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society (NAFWS) during their Alaska Summer Youth Practicum at a summer camp in Chugiak, Alaska. Participants and chaperones came from all over to learn about tribal stewardship.

See Stories Collaborator Alyson Kenney shared that this was a meaningful program: “The camp’s care and commitment fostered real connection. We all got to know each other through shared meals, games, and it was truly an amazing week for all the students and me.”

During the week, students made incredible films, interviewing stewardship experts from the Eklutna and Chickaloon tribes, as well as Maija Katak Lukin. The week closed with a film screening for family and friends at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

✨ This summer, See Stories has been back in Kake for our 2nd summer working with the Kake Alaska Youth Stewards (AYS). The Kake AYS crew is composed of 5 amazing Tlingit youth from Kake, and their lovely crew leader Eloise! They work on community stewardship projects each summer like subsistence fishing, community restoration efforts, arts, and environmental monitoring. We are so thrilled they have integrated a storytelling component into their summer activities as well! Alyson (Alyson Kenney) traveled to Kake earlier this summer to train youth and get them started on projects, and after filming all summer, See Stories will return to support youth in editing their films before airing them at a community film event. Stay tuned for more coming from this project!!!

Film has the power to do so much more than entertain—it can start conversations, build understanding, and inspire people to see the world through someone else’s eyes.

That’s why we’re especially grateful to for supporting See Stories Live Juneau 2026.

Working Films partners with organizations across the country that use film to strengthen communities and inspire positive social and environmental change. ✨Feature Friday✨

Seniors in a Mythology class at West High School documented the histories of Spenard and connecting local stories to Greek gods and goddesses this past Speing. Students explored Bosco's, the Paradise Inn palm tree, Leroy's Restaurant, Joe Spenard, and many other pieces of neighborhood history. With West High located in Spenard, and many students calling the neighborhood home, they were uniquely equipped to tell these stories.

We are so grateful to the many interviewees who shared their knowledge, as well as the local Facebook history pages full of memories that inspired student research. A special thank you to Duke Russell, Cal Williams, Synclaire Butler, Paul Craig, John Weddleton, Sezy Gerow-Hanson, David Reamer, and Mr. Whitekeys. Thank you also to our amazing volunteers, Iqlas Dubed, Alice Horazdovsky, Julian Ramirez, and Brandon Lopez, who helped make these interviews possible.

A huge shout out to our host teacher, Adam Mackie. As one student shared, "The white raven of Spenard guides us, like Hermes was the guide between worlds in Ancient Greece, and also like Mr. Mackie, who leads us to a deeper understanding!"

Thank you to the Atwood Foundation and The Alaska Block Foundation for making this project possible. We're also grateful to The Nave Spenard for generously hosting a community screening on the second Saturday in November, where 10 of the project's standout student films will be featured for the community to enjoy.
