Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays 🎄

For many in our community, the holidays are not filled with gatherings, warmth, or family support.

This time of year can be especially heavy for people experiencing homelessness. Isolation, grief, unmet medical needs, and the absence of a safe place to belong can make the holidays feel overwhelming. Suicidal thoughts often increase during this season — not because people want to die, but because they want the pain, loneliness, and exhaustion to stop.

At Alaskan Way, we hold space for our clients with compassion, dignity, and care — meeting people where they are and reminding them that they matter.

If you have the chance this season, take a moment to slow down. Sit with someone. Listen without fixing. Sometimes being heard is the most powerful gift we can offer.

To those who are struggling: you are not invisible, and you are not alone.
To our community: thank you for choosing empathy, presence, and kindness.

From all of us at Alaskan Way, we wish you a peaceful holiday season and a new year rooted in hope and human connection.

A project that started during the pandemic to help people leaving the Sullivan Arena mass shelter has grown into a community-wide fund to help our unsheltered neighbors in a variety of ways.

The Good Neighbor Fund, officially launched in November with support of the Municipality of Anchorage, has amassed more than $112,500 in donations from 204 individuals as of Dec. 17.

Anchorage winters are dangerously cold. For our neighbors sleeping outside, a warm coat, boots or gloves can make the difference between safety and severe harm. This December, you can help provide lifesaving winter gear to 100 people experiencing homelessness in our community.

The fund, initially started by two friends, helps get money quickly to people who need it — covering everything from a hotel room to a driver’s license.

✨ Season of Gratitude ✨

As we move through this holiday season, we are taking time to reflect on the incredible community support surrounding Alaskan Way Inc.

This season of giving reminds us how powerful it is when a community comes together to care for one another — especially for those who are most vulnerable. We are deeply grateful for the organizations, partners, and individuals who have stepped forward to support our mission and believe in the work we are building.

Every conversation, letter of support, shared resource, and word of encouragement reminds us to count our blessings and continue moving forward with purpose and hope.

If you would like to learn more or support our work, donations of any size truly make a difference. Every dollar counts and helps us continue building safe, dignified housing and supportive services for medically fragile adults in our community. Donations are accepted on our website.

🦃🍁 Happy Thanksgiving, Anchorage! 🍁🦃

Today we pause to give thanks—for community, compassion, and the resilience of those who continue pushing forward no matter the challenges.

To our neighbors experiencing homelessness: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone. Holidays can be especially tough, but Anchorage is full of people who care, who will stand with you, and who believe in your strength and your future.

As we gather with family, friends, or even in quiet moments alone, may we all remember the importance of kindness. A warm meal, a shared smile, a helping hand—these things matter.

From all of us here in Anchorage and at Alaskan Way:
Happy Thanksgiving. Stay warm, stay safe, and know that hope lives here.

📻 Thank you KNBA 90.3 FM!

This morning, Alaskan Way had the honor of being featured on KNBA 90.3 FM with host Kelly Brabec. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work — providing medically supportive transitional housing and culturally grounded care for Anchorage’s most vulnerable elders and relatives.

Thank you, Kelly, for a thoughtful and meaningful conversation, and thank you to everyone who tuned in. Your support helps us continue building safe, healing spaces for our community.

🎉 We are officially on our way! 🎉

Our very first donation has come in — $500 from an anonymous donor — toward our goal of raising $3,752 to complete the required licensing step for Alaskan Way PCA Partners in Care.

This generous gift brings us one step closer to opening Qasgiq House, Anchorage’s first transitional home for medically fragile adults and elders who cannot stay in traditional shelters.

To our anonymous donor: thank you. Your kindness is helping us build resilience in our community through our community. ❤️

🇺🇸 Happy Veterans Day! 🇺🇸

As a proud veteran and founder of Alaskan Way, I want to take a moment to thank all my fellow vets for your service, sacrifice, and strength.

• VA Alaska Health Care — Homeless Veteran Care: Immediate food, shelter, life-skills, employment support.

• CSS Alaska’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) — Case management and help for veterans & their families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Link
• Alaska Warrior Partnership — Connecting veterans, families and caregivers with housing, employment, benefits and more in Alaska. Call (907) 312-7229.
• Hotline: If you’re in crisis or homeless, you can call 1-877-424-3838 (for veterans) in Alaska.
