In Guatemala, telling the truth just got less terrifying for a child. 🧡
For a survivor of abuse, the justice system can become a second wound — retelling the worst moment of your life, sometimes in the same room as the person who caused it.
That’s exactly what this partnership is changing.
Kids Alive / Vida Para Niños has partnered with Guatemala’s Supreme Court of Justice to transform the Courts for Children and Adolescents in Escuintla, creating spaces designed to protect kids from being re-traumatized as they pursue justice.
The project includes private, soundproofed interview rooms, closed-circuit camera systems so a child can be heard without sitting across from the person who harmed them, renovated courtrooms and gentler waiting areas, and training led by experienced judges.
It’s part of a formal agreement between the Guatemalan Judicial Branch and Kids Alive — a shared commitment that, as Justice Flor de María Gálvez Barrios put it, means “strengthening the care and protection of our children and adolescents.”

Because a child should never have to choose between staying silent and staying safe.
