Allen Quilters' Guild awarded Marine Corp Matthew Wall his Quilt of Valor at Baylor Spine & Rehab Hospital in Dallas on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Matt is receiving care from a motorcycle accident in mid-July. The family asks for prayers as he continues his recovery. We thank you for your service to our country. We hope this quilt will bring comfort to you as you continue to heal. God bless you!

Allen Quilters' Guild awarded Col. Calvin Arnold his Quilt of Valor today at VFW Post 2195 Allen, Texas monthly meeting. He served from 1968 to 1997 in the United States Army with numerous awards during his career. He was accompanied by members of his family to wrap him in his quilt. Members of the guild Carol B. and Therese S. presented him with his quilt. The quilt of pieced by Therese Swett and quilted by Tom DeMoss.

Col Arnold's commands included:
Officer In Charge of AFKN RADIO for all of Korea.
Commanded Units in Army Reserve: The 343rd public Affairs Detachment in 1978-1981 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Commanded United 431st Civil Affairs Company, 1981- 1984 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Commanded 92nd Chemical Battalion, 1984-1987, Pine Bluff Arkansas.
Commanded 95th Training Command, 1987- 1988, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Commanded 95th Training Command Support Brigade, 1988-1991, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations of the 122 Army Reserve Command, in Little Rock.
Chief of Staff of the 95th Division, in Oklahoma City 1992-1995.
Assistant Division Commander of the 95th Division 1995-1997.

Allen Quilters' Guild awarded David Newman his Quilt of Valor today at his VVA Chapter 1122 meeting. He is a Navy veteran who also served in Vietnam. Thank you for your service to our country. His wife was there to see him receive his quilt. The quilt was pieced by members of the guild, quilted by Teresa Allen and bound by Marge Bryan.

Allen Quilters’ Guild awarded Troy T***a his Quilt of Valor for his service to our country. He was a member of the Army 101st Airborne and served in Germany and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged after being shot during his tour of duty. Thank you for your service to our country.

His quilt was made by Sharon (Sam) Holliday. His family was there to wrap him in his quilt along with his pool buddies.

Our August 20th, speaker is Gwen Schroth and her program is Unique Necktie Quilts. Gwen has been quilting for almost forty years but began to sew her own clothes at age ten. She grew up in India, one of eight girls and and a single boy. Their parents were Mennonite missionaries in Hyderabad state, South India (now Andra Pradesh).
Gwen’s love of vivid colors comes from those years living in a country where both men and women proudly wear bright colored clothing, a stark contrast for the endless brown dirt around them. Once acquainted with quilting, all other hobbies fell by the wayside, such as knotting and crocheting. Writing competes with her passion of quilting.

Allen Quilters Guild had a table today at the Collin County Veterans Expo held at the Allen Senior Activity Center. We signed up over 40 veterans to receive a Quilt of Valor. Our guild makes and awards quilts every year to deserving veterans. You can nominate someone at www.qovf.org.

Allen Quilters' Guild presented John Vidal, Jr. his Quilt of Valor at VFW Group that meets at The Allen Senior Activity Center. John served in the U.S. Navy. Betty M., Carol B. and Elaine R. helped wrap John in his quilt. Quilt was pieced by members of the guild and quilted by Debra Malone-Reeve.

Allen Quilters’ Guild presented Marques Miles, United States Air Force his Quilt of Valor on Saturday, May 2nd in The Colony. Elaine R. and Carol B. presented him his quilt. Anne Mix and his wife wrapped him in his quilt. Anne pieced and bound the quilt. It was quilted by Tom DeMoss at Ready Set Quilt in Plano.

Marques served from 2001-2020 during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was stationed in Germany, Kuwait, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Texas, and Virginia. He was a member of the 138th Fighter Wing. He received the Combat Medal of Honor.
