Mary Ryland is my friend. She played an important part in the early years of my musical career. My first shows on stage with the following legends of western music were the result of Mary booking my band with these top shelf performers. Bob Wills' Texas Playboys. Riders in the Sky. Ian Tyson. Sons of the Pioneers. Don Edwards. Michael Martin Murphey. Lynn Anderson. Sons of the San Joaquin, and others. I have since become friends with all these people and performed many more concerts with them through the years. Together with Rick Huff, their work in our industry is a key reason why traditional western music is still so popular today. This morning Mary crossed the great divide and now rests up yonder in the tall country. People like me get handed all the accolades, but it's those such as Mary Ryland who deserve them most. Journey well, my friend. I'll see you down the trail.
