On the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24), the Risen Jesus walks with His disciples—unrecognized, yet fully present. In this homily on the April 19 Lectionary readings, Fr. Ignatius Schweitzer, OP reflects on how we encounter Christ today through Scripture and the Eucharist, where our hearts begin to burn within us.
Drawing from St. Bonaventure, St. Francis of Assisi, and the Church’s mystical tradition, this reflection invites us to remain with Jesus, abide in His presence, and enter more deeply into the abundant life He offers. The Mass becomes our Emmaus journey—where Christ opens the Scriptures and makes Himself known in the breaking of the bread.

“Stay with us, Lord.”

Have you opened your bible today? Have you looked at and contemplated the Gospel reading?

In the Gospel Reading Jesus “looked around at them with anger” and then does something astonishing…

Go! Read!

Then come back and share!

🌱"At the level of personal appropriation, the hearing of the word of God proclaimed must be well prepared in the souls of the faithful... This is the value of initiatives in parish communities which bring together during the week those who take part in the Eucharist... In order to prepare the Sunday liturgy, reflecting beforehand upon the word of God, which will be proclaimed."
