The League advocates on issues on which we have positions. Positions are created only after careful study and member consensus. The League maintains integrity and non-partisanship by making sure that each new League position is consistent with League principles and positions on other issues. Non-partisan means not supporting any party or candidate for office. Non-partisan does not refer to issues, only to parties and candidates. We are neutral on issues before and during the study process. Once we have adopted a position statement, we are no longer neutral: we are either in support or opposition to an issue. We use our positions to educate legislative bodies and the public on our views of issues.
