The Senate has passed the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act, completing congressional action and sending the legislation to the President for signature!
 
This moment belongs to the ALS community. People living with ALS, families, caregivers, advocates, researchers, clinicians, and ALS United member organizations worked for years to help make reauthorization possible.
 
As a member of ALS United, ALS New Mexico was proud to be part of this effort. ALS United members brought more than 50 advocates to Capitol Hill for Hill Day and met with lawmakers in their home districts, while ALS United organized a congressional briefing and met with House and Senate committees throughout the reauthorization process.
 
Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences, contacted lawmakers, joined advocacy efforts, and helped carry this effort forward.
 
Together, we got ACT for ALS across the finish line.

Terry was diagnosed with bulbar-onset amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2024. While he is still able to move his mouth and body, his speech has become impaired to the point where his loved ones have difficulty understanding him.

Through the VOICE trial, Terry is using his Neuralink implant to help fine-tune a brain-to-voice interface for himself and others who can’t speak. He trained the algorithm first by miming speech as best he could, then by simply thinking the words and hearing them come out in his own natural voice.

The energy at M'tucci's Bar Roma was absolutely electric for our annual Ice Bucket Challenge Party! Justina Grant and the ALS New Mexico Board of Directors spent the morning pouring ice water to keep the spotlight on local families navigating an ALS diagnosis.
