A Military War Dog, or Military Working Dog (MWD), is a canine that has been trained to protect humans in dangerous situations, and March 13 has been unofficially designated as a day to honor these unique members of the military.

K9 Veterans Day was created by Joe White of Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. White was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a K9 handler and trainer. Because the US K9 Corps was created on March 13, 1942, Mr. White chose this as the day to recognize and celebrate the contributions MWDs have made to the military over the decades.

After his death on Oct. 24, 2009, his wife, Sally, continued the effort to make this an official national holiday. It is hoped by advocates that the day might be celebrated at military war dog memorials across the U.S. to commemorate these special veterans.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this years Veterans Day Parade a huge success.

It was especially gratifying to see the students from Oregon State University in uniform.

We'd like to send out a special "thank you" to Western Oregon University veterans for assisting with the honor guard at the memorial service.

It was brought to our attention, that the Portland Veterans Day Parade has been cancelled.

The Linn County Veterans Day Parade in Albany Oregon has not been cancelled, and will not be cancelled.

Please spread the word as there is a lot of misinformation out there.

Hello, All! We’re still welcoming hygiene item donations for care packages. Next week, on Veterans Day, OVHL Residents will assemble care kits to support those helped by the Lebanon Soup Kitchen, some of whom are fellow Veterans. Items can be dropped off at our front desk Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. Thank you!
