Hundreds have died and nearly 2,000 people remain missing after catastrophic flooding and landslides struck the region. Local churches are helping neighbors despite destroyed roads and isolated communities, while United Methodist mission partners, including UMCOR and United Mission to Nepal, are working to provide emergency relief and support longer-term recovery.

Please join churches around the world in praying for those who are grieving, searching for loved ones, serving on the ground, and facing the long road toward rebuilding.

What a joyful Sunday!

The three congregations of the South Santiam Circuit gathered together at Lebanon First UMC for our combined 5th Sunday worship service. Pastor Amanda Gayle Reed kicked off our new sermon series, Becoming Beloved Community, with “We Belong to One Another,” reminding us of the ways Christ calls us into a community where walls are broken down and we belong to one another.

And what a special celebration we shared as we honored Lillian on her 101st birthday! What a gift to celebrate the generations, stories, and people who make up our church communities.

We’re grateful for the chance to worship together as one circuit and to continue becoming the beloved community God calls us to be.

This Sunday, the South Santiam Circuit will gather together for combined worship at Lebanon First UMC as we begin a new sermon series, Becoming Beloved Community.

We’ll begin with Ephesians 2:11–22 and the reminder that in Christ, the walls that divide us do not have the final word. We belong to one another. God is still shaping us into a community where there is room for all!

For years, United Methodist district superintendents in eastern Congo have traveled hundreds of miles on foot, by bicycle, or on rented motorcycles to care for the communities they serve. This year, Bishop Antoine Tambwe Kalema provided 11 new motorcycles for district superintendents, investing about $22,000 of his own funds to help pastors reach their churches and communities more easily.

For these pastors, this isn't simply about transportation. It's about having greater freedom to travel, serve, evangelize, and care for the people entrusted to them.

On Sunday, Eric reflected on the story of Jesus, Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, beginning with a question many of us know well: “Why now?” He reminded us that Christian hope does not require us to rush past grief or have answers to every question. Jesus wept with those who were hurting, and we are invited to bring our tears, questions, confusion, and even our anger into God’s presence.

Eric also reflected on the sacredness of ordinary life - the meals, stories, laughter, and memories we share around the table - and the way a church community can keep a chair open for one another when grief makes it difficult to believe or hope.

Whatever comes next, we do not face it alone. Christ is here; we are here.

What does the church have to offer in a world that is more connected than ever, yet many people feel increasingly alone?

At Discipleship Ministries’ recent RISE UP conference, United Methodist leaders explored the challenges and opportunities facing the church, including artificial intelligence, loneliness, leadership, hospitality, and the importance of genuine human connection.

One message came through clearly: the church has a unique role to play in helping people know they are seen, welcomed, and not alone.

It’s a timely conversation for all of us as we consider what it means to rise up, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously.

Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is to make room for someone to set down what they've been carrying.

What if church could be a place where we don't have to pretend we're not tired?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28

We all carry things that leave us tired: responsibilities, worries, grief, and expectations. Jesus doesn't ask us to carry those burdens alone. He invites us to come, to rest, and to find a different way of carrying what life brings.

What burden might you be ready to bring to Jesus, trusting that you don't have to carry it alone?

More than 630 people living near a dumpsite in Kenya received free medical care through a three-day outreach program organized by the Inspired Word Mission Center, a United Methodist ministry in the Kenya-Ethiopia Annual Conference.

For many in the community, distance and the cost of healthcare have meant living with illness without treatment. Through this program, volunteers offered consultations, medication, mental health assessments, and referrals, putting faith into action through compassionate care.
