NASHIA is excited to give yet another shout-out to our friends and colleagues in Colorado!

The non-profit Justice System Partners recently published a powerful feature diving into the intersectionality of brain injury within the criminal legal system. We are incredibly proud to see Russha Knauer from the MINDSOURCE Brain Injury Network team interviewed for the piece, spotlighting the critical work they are doing to bring brain injury screening to the forefront.

As a dedicated subscriber to NASHIA’s Online Brain Injury Screening and Support System (OBISSS), Colorado MINDSOURCE is actively using this tool to close systemic gaps. By making screening widely available, they are helping to ensure that people with potential brain injury are met with the right supports.

Thank you, MINDSOURCE, for your incredible advocacy and for utilizing the OBISSS framework to create a more just, brain-informed system.

Join leading Central Arkansas law enforcement professionals for a candid, step-by-step overview of the justice process from intake through detention at both county and city levels. This concurrent session is open to all SOS 2026 attendees and provides foundational context on the criminal legal system and its intersections with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Participants interested in the immersive “Jail School” experience must attend this concurrent session AND complete separate advance registration. Space is limited to the first 45 registrants. Transportation will be provided for the jail tour.

For registered participants, the experience continues with an exclusive, interactive site visit inside a local detention facility. This immersive component offers rare access, real-world insight, and facilitated dialogue at the intersection of justice and brain injury. Attendees will receive handouts outlining current programming within the Pulaski County Jail, a process map highlighting potential intercept points between law enforcement and TBI services, and demonstrations of curricula using the AHEAD training modules.

Two-part experience:

1️⃣ Jail School (Required prerequisite): Criminal Legal System concurrent session Tuesday, September 1, 2026 | 2:30–3:30 PM

2️⃣ Jail Tour (Separate registration required): Pulaski County Regional Detention Center Thursday, September 3, 2026 | 1:30–3:30 PM

There is no additional cost to participate. Transportation is provided. Details for registration will be shared soon.

If you haven't checked out the Link Center's new resource library, now is the time! They have compiled an incredibly useful database of helpful resources, both authored by the Link Center and shared by their partners. Currently featured in the library is the Adaptive Strategies Resource Library from NASDDDS.

People experiencing altered brain functioning—whether developmental (I/DD, autism) or acquired (brain injury) — face a higher prevalence of co-occurring behavioral and physical health issues. Research indicates these people respond well to standard evidence-based interventions when cognitive adaptations are applied. The Adaptive Strategies Resource Library collection highlights specific interventions and the modifications necessary to make them accessible. We encourage you to share these tools with mental health practitioners to help close the gap in care!

Announcing our Moody Prize Celebration Keynote: Jarrett Irons 🏆🏈

We are thrilled to announce that Jarrett Irons - dynamic entrepreneur, business leader, and former All-American football captain - will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Moody Prize Celebration honoring Dr. Steven Broglio!

With over 25 years of experience leading high-growth business initiatives and strategic partnerships, Jarrett brings a vital perspective to the conversation surrounding life after injury. Data drives prevention: North Dakota integrates brain injury into su***de fatality reviews 🏛️🧠

The new annual report from the North Dakota Su***de Fatality Review Commission incorporates brain injury in two ways:

1️⃣ Recommends increasing provider education on concussion and head injury as risk factors for su***de, and ensuring all concussions and
head injuries are consistently documented in medical records.

2️⃣ Adds head injuries as being a factor that should be looked at by the panel.

Congratulations to our North Dakota partners and advocates for ensuring this "hidden factor" is finally brought to light.
