Returning Hope to the Ocean🌊

On 17 October 2026, another group of Olive Ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) hatchlings has successfully embarked on its extraordinary journey to the sea. During routine morning patrols and nest monitoring activities along the coastline of Ulmera Village, the Lenuk Tasi Team carefully released another batch of hatchlings into their natural habitat. As these tiny marine travellers disappeared into the waves and followed the ocean currents into the vast ocean.🌏🌊

This release represents more than just a conservation milestone. It reflects the collective dedication of local communities, conservation practitioners, and partners working together to safeguard one of the world's most vulnerable marine species.🌏

The activity also served as an important educational opportunity to strengthen community awareness and appreciation of sea turtle conservation. Through the Turtle Tour, visitors explored conservation mural paintings, learned about the seven species of sea turtles, their life cycles, lifespans, and nesting behaviours, and visited the hatchery facilities. These experiences provided valuable insights into the importance of protecting coastal habitats and safeguarding endangered species for future generations.📚👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

Lenuk Tasi Guardian School at EBC 1,2,3 Kasait, Ulmera Village📚🐢

As part of the Lenuk Tasi Guardian School Initiative, 50 students from Escola Básica Central 1,2,3 Kasait participated in an exciting learning experience focused on sea turtle conservation and marine environmental protection. The program began with an interactive presentation that strengthened students' knowledge about the importance of protecting endangered species and their role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Students learned about the seven species of sea turtles, their life cycles, and the threats they face in the ocean.🌊

To bring learning beyond the classroom, Lenuk Tasi members guided the students on a visit to the Lenuk Tasi Rescue and Conservation Centre, where they witnessed conservation efforts in action and connected directly with nature. Through experiences like these, we inspire young people to become future ocean guardians and champions for marine conservation.🌊🌏

🐢Sea Turtle Hatchlings Heading Home

Another group of Olive Ridley sea turtle hatchlings (Lepidochelys olivacea) has begun its incredible journey toward the sea, taking its first steps into the vast ocean.🌊

These tiny hatchlings will drift with ocean currents, navigating a world full of challenges and uncertainties. With a bit of luck and nature's guidance, some will survive the journey and one day return to the very same beach where they were born to lay their own eggs.🌏

Sadly, only a small fraction of hatchlings survive to adulthood, facing numerous threats from predators, pollution, and changing ocean conditions. Every successful release is therefore a hopeful step toward the conservation of this remarkable species.🌏🌊

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined and supported the hatchling release at the Lenuk Tasi Rescue and Conservation Center.💙

Coral Triangle Initiative Field Visit to the Lenuk Tasi Rescue and Conservation Center🐢

As part of a regional exchange program on threatened species and climate change adaptation in Timor-Leste, delegates conducted a field visit to the Lenuk Tasi Rescue and Conservation Center (LTRCC).🌊

The purpose of the visit was to directly observe ongoing conservation efforts aimed at protecting and conserving threatened species, particularly sea turtles, as part of a shared regional commitment to preserving marine biodiversity and strengthening ecosystem resilience.🌊🐢

The visit brought together representatives from CTI-CFF, its six member countries across the Coral Triangle region, and development partners including WWF and Shellbank.💙

A total of 745 students participated in the Lenuk Tasi Guardian School Program at Colégio de Santo Inácio de Loiola Kasait.📚🐢

The Lenuk Tasi team launched this program to create opportunities for students to connect with and care for threatened marine species, particularly sea turtles. The initiative encourages students to learn, act, and share knowledge, helping to inspire the next generation of sea turtle stewards.🐢🌊

The program offers educational activities designed to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of sea turtle conservation. Through interactive learning sessions, students gained valuable insights into the importance of sea turtles in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems, as well as the threats these species face and the opportunities for conservation action.💙

During the presentations, the team also highlighted the various conservation activities implemented through the Lenuk Tasi program. Students enthusiastically participated, asking insightful questions about sea turtle conservation.💫
