WAICCON 2027 Host Country, Sierra Leone, Minister: Jiwoh Emmanuel Abdulai

The intersection of Sierra Leone’s national leadership and its role within West Africa has created a powerful synergy for climate action. Jiwoh Emmanuel Abdulai, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Passionate believer in the WAICCON Agenda, Minister Abdulai serves as the operational engine for this vision, translating President Bio’s high-level diplomacy into technical and regional reality.

Minister Abdulai is widely recognized for shifting the ministry's focus from protection to value creation. His core philosophy is that Sierra Leone and the West Africa environment is its most valuable economic asset.

The Protect Sierra Leone Roadmap: He leads a four-pillar plan focused on landscape management, community-led forestry, marine resource sustainability, and the first national forest inventory in 50 years (completed in 2025/26).
Carbon Market Pioneer: Abdulai has been instrumental in positioning Sierra Leone as a leader in high-integrity carbon credits, ensuring that local communities, rather than just middlemen, benefit from the global demand for forest conservation.
Science-First Policy: Utilizing his background in data and technology, he has integrated satellite-based monitoring to track reforestation efforts in real time, drastically reducing illegal logging in the Western Area and Gola Rainforests.
