OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Hillside Girls Empowerment Network on the Sexual Assault and Death of a 2-Year-Old Girl in Moyamba

The Hillside Girls Empowerment Network (HGEN) expresses its deepest sorrow and outrage over the tragic incident in Moyamba District, where a two-year-old girl lost her life following a brutal sexual assault, as confirmed by the recent autopsy report.

We unequivocally condemn this heinous act of violence and call upon the Sierra Leone Police, the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, and the Judiciary to conduct an urgent, transparent, and thorough investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice.

This incident represents not only a grave criminal offence but also a serious violation of the rights and safety of children. It underscores the urgent need for stronger child protection mechanisms, community vigilance, and strict enforcement of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) laws across Sierra Leone.

HGEN stands in solidarity with the victim’s family and the Moyamba community during this time of grief. We also urge the government and civil society organisations to:

Provide psychosocial and legal support to the affected family;
Strengthen public education on the protection of children and the reporting of abuse;
Reinforce institutional accountability to ensure that such atrocities never go unpunished.
We reaffirm our commitment to advocate for the safety, dignity, and empowerment of all girls and young women in Sierra Leone. The protection of children must remain a national priority.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Justice must be served. Silence is not an option.

OUR CHILDREN ARE DYING – KUSH IS KILLING SIERRA LEONE’S FUTURE! 🚨

Every single day, our streets are filled with lifeless dreams. Another young boy collapses on a corner. Another girl disappears into the shadows. Kush is stealing our brothers, sisters, and friends right before our eyes.

Our once-promising youth – the very heart of Sierra Leone’s tomorrow – are now digging through garbage, working as β€œClean Salone” collectors, fighting for scraps of survival. These are not criminals; they are victims of a deadly cycle. Victims of a system that has failed to protect them, a society that has turned a blind eye.

If we continue to watch in silence, an entire generation will perish. How many more mothers will cry over lifeless sons? How many more fathers will bury their daughters?

We need action, and we need it NOW. Stronger laws to choke the supply of Kush. Safe spaces and rehab centres to rescue addicts. Jobs and opportunities that give our young people hope again. This is not just a government issue; it’s a battle for our future, and every Sierra Leonean must join this fight.

Let’s rise, speak up, and save our children before it’s too late.

πŸ’œ JUSTICE FOR OUR DAUGHTERS! πŸ’œ

The Hillside Girls Empowerment Network (HGEN) applauds the brave verdict that sentenced former St. Joseph Secondary School teacher, Musa Turay, to 15 years in prison for the vile sexual abuse of two young schoolgirls, ages 12 and 13.

This ruling is a victory for every girl who has been silenced by fear and shame. It is proof that our voices matter and that justice can prevail when we unite to protect the most vulnerable among us.

We stand with the courageous survivors whose bravery brought this predator to justice. We also commend Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens and the Sexual Offences Court for showing that violence against girls will not be tolerated in Sierra Leone.

Schools should be safe havens, not hunting grounds for predators. HGEN will continue to fight for stronger laws, safer spaces, and a society where every girl grows up free from abuse and exploitation.

πŸ”Š Let’s all rise! Protect our girls. Demand justice. End SGBV now. πŸ”Š

STATEMENT FROM HILLSIDE GIRLS EMPOWERMENT NETWORK 🚨

We strongly condemn the disturbing allegations against Ahmad Basha, a Lebanese businessman accused of sexually abusing three 15-year-old girls in Freetown.

Reports say the girls were drugged and confined in his residence for over a week. This is a shocking violation of their rights and dignity.

We demand a swift, transparent investigation and full justice for the victims. These girls deserve protection, not exploitation!

Let this be a wake-up call to end sexual violence and impunity in Sierra Leone. Justice must prevail. ✊🏾
