We are pleased to share an exciting postgraduate opportunity for talented young Africans passionate about sustainability, climate action, and inclusive development.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Edinburgh is now preparing to recruit scholars for September 2027, offering a range of fully funded on‑campus and online Master’s programmes in fields such as Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability, Food Security, Global Health, Digital Education, and more.
Please note that the recruitment process has changed: all interested applicants must attend one of the mandatory virtual information sessions taking place between 15–24 September 2026 in order to receive the application link (provided they also meet the eligibility criteria).
These sessions will not be recorded, so early registration is essential.
Applications are strongly encouraged from young women, persons with disabilities, and those with refugee or displaced status.

FAWE Sierra Leone extends congratulations to scholarship beneficiaries at ABBAKO Technical College Port Loko for finishing their second semester exams today. Their hard work and dedication have paid off. We wish them great success in their results and a restful, well-deserved break.

FAWE Sierra Leone scholarship beneficiaries at Abbako Technical College in Port Loko are progressing through their academic term, participating in the second semester continuous assessment exams and practical.

The scholarship program for Untrained and Unqualified Female Teachers in Rural communities provides an important opportunity to untrained and unqualified female teachers to bridge the rural female teacher shortage, empower women with formal credentials, and provide vital female role models.

Upgrading these teachers turns them into strong role models who help improve student learning, especially for girls.

FAWE Sierra Leone scholarship beneficiaries are actively taking part in practical activities as part of their continuous assessment.

These activities helps to bridge the gap between abstract educational theory and real-world classroom ex*****on, transforming student-teachers into confident, competent, and adaptable professionals ready to improve learning outcomes.

As an organization we will continue to provide opportunities for untrained and unqualified female teachers to narrow the gender gap in the teaching workforce.

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Sierra Leone remains committed to improving the quality of education in rural communities through regular monitoring visits to ABBAKO Technical College. These visits enable the project team to closely track the academic progress, attendance, and overall performance of beneficiaries under FAWE’s specialized upgrading scholarship programme for Untrained and Unqualified Female Teachers (UUTs) serving in hard-to-reach communities.

The monitoring process focuses on assessing instructional hours, evaluating academic performance, monitoring student retention, and identifying any administrative or financial challenges that may affect the successful completion of the programme. By maintaining close engagement with beneficiaries and training institutions, FAWE ensures that participants receive the support they need to succeed.

Through this initiative, FAWE Sierra Leone is investing in the professional development of female teachers by supporting them to obtain nationally recognized teaching qualifications. This contributes to addressing the shortage of qualified teachers in rural schools, empowering women with better employment opportunities, and placing strong female role models in classrooms where they are needed most.

We believe that investing in female teachers is an investment in stronger schools, empowered communities, and brighter futures for children—especially girls. When women are equipped with the skills and qualifications to teach, rural schools benefit from improved learning outcomes, and more girls are encouraged to remain in school and pursue their education.

Together, we can bridge the gender gap in the teaching workforce and ensure that every child has access to quality education, regardless of where they live.
