National Association of Farmers of Siera Leone - NAFSL Farming organization for both small and commercialized farmers in Sierra Leone

Farmers took the initiative in the late 1970s to organize themselves into local farmers’ associations or co-operatives, to facilitate cooperation in crop production, processing and marketing activities as well as fishing and livestock rearing. The Sierra Leone Agricultural Society (SLAS) encouraged the formation of the National Association of Farmers of Sierra Leone (NAFSL) during its annual confe

rence in 1983 as a way of unifying and formalizing the many grassroots farmers’ associations that existed into a federation of farmers’ associations. This materialized in 1987 after much sensitization and mobilization of the farmers’ groups.
