🇸🇱 YASDev Sierra Leone Welcomes the ECOWAS Delegation to Sierra Leone for the 96th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers

The Youth Alliance for Sustainable Development (YASDev Sierra Leone) proudly welcomes the distinguished ECOWAS delegation to Freetown as they convene for the 96th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.

This important gathering comes at a time when West Africa faces pressing challenges, including climate change, youth unemployment, food insecurity, and biodiversity loss. We believe this session presents a unique opportunity for regional leaders to strengthen cooperation and deliver practical solutions that improve the lives of our people.

In our press statement, YASDev calls on ECOWAS to:

🌱 Prioritize investments in the green economy, renewable energy, and climate-smart agriculture.

🤝 Translate regional commitments into tangible opportunities that create decent green jobs and promote inclusive economic growth.

👥 Recognize and institutionalize the meaningful participation of young people and civil society as partners in shaping the region's future.

YASDev Sierra Leone remains committed to working alongside ECOWAS institutions, the Government of Sierra Leone, and development partners to build a greener, more resilient, peaceful, and prosperous West Africa where no one is left behind.

I never imagined that working with a partner like ActionAid Sierra Leone could be so easy until I had the privilege of working with Mr. Mohamed Fofana.

He was a truly down-to-earth person, always wearing a warm smile that reflected hope, confidence, and kindness. No matter how difficult the circumstances became, he had a remarkable ability to reassure and encourage those around him. Even while facing his own challenges, he never stopped finding ways to comfort others and inspire them to keep moving forward.

His humility, strength, and selfless spirit made him not only an exceptional colleague but also a remarkable human being. His legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the honor of knowing and working with him.

To his beloved family, the entire ActionAid Sierra Leone team, and particularly the Executive Director Alhaji Foday-Bassie Swaray, who shared a close professional relationship and friendship with him, I pray that you find strength, peace, and comfort during this profoundly difficult time. May the cherished memories of his life, his service, and the positive impact he made on so many lives bring you solace in the days ahead.

May his gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace.
