From Community Voices to Climate Action
The 2026 TrĂłcaire project activities officially commenced with a Community Adaptation Plan (CAP) dialogue held in Tombo, bringing together Village Development Committees (VDCs) from Russel, Boryoh, Madina, Mongegba, Grafton, Koba Water, Tombo, Kissy Town, Big Water, and No. 2 River, alongside the Climate Change Unit of the Western Area Rural District Council (WARD C).
The dialogue provided a platform for communities to share their lived experiences of climate change and reflect on the progress made in implementing their Community Adaptation Plans, developed from community by-laws. Key issues discussed included deforestation, flooding, coastal erosion, and waste management, with participants outlining both the impacts on their communities and the actions already being taken to address them.
Through these discussions, it became clear that while communities are actively taking steps to protect their environment, such as safeguarding water sources and promoting sustainable practices, there are still significant challenges, particularly around funding, coordination, and enforcement.
The session also created space for engagement with the Climate Change Unit, which responded to community concerns and identified key action points to support implementation. With CAPs now integrated into district development plans, the dialogue emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between communities and the council to translate these plans into tangible results.
It marked an important step towards ensuring that community-led climate actions are supported and sustained at both local and institutional levels.
