GCEAN–SL Donates School Materials to 20 Primary Pupils, Announces Scholarships

The Girl Child Education Advocacy Network - Sierra Leone (GCEAN–SL) today brightened the lives of 22 primary school children with a generous donation of essential learning materials, reaffirming its commitment to supporting education and empowering the next generation.

Each beneficiary received a complete school starter pack containing one school bag, one ruler, two sharpeners, four erasers, fifteen notebooks, twelve pens, twelve pencils, and one mathematical set. The gesture aims to ease the financial burden on parents while motivating the children to pursue their studies with confidence.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Moses Sahr Fayiah, Founder of GCEAN–SL, underscored the importance of investing in young learners:

“This initiative not only lightens the load for their parents but also empowers the children to embrace their academic journey with confidence. By providing them with the tools they need, we are helping to pave the way for a brighter future.”

Mr. Fayiah further announced that GCEAN–SL will be awarding scholarships to 10 pupils in the neighborhood at ROMANS International Academy, giving them the opportunity to continue their education with reduced financial constraints. He encouraged parents to nurture and support their children, describing them as “our future leaders.”

The colourful event drew wide media attention, with AYV, Premiere News, ECHOS Salone Blogger, 98.1 FM, and SLIK TV present to capture the memorable occasion. Parents and community members expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, noting that the donation will significantly reduce back-to-school expenses.

Through this initiative, GCEAN–SL continues to demonstrate that collective action and community-focused programs can make a tangible difference in the lives of Sierra Leone’s children, inspiring them to dream big and work hard toward a brighter tomorrow.

Empowering Women: The Key to Accelerating Progress

As the world celebrates International Women's Day on March 8, 2024, the theme "Investing in Women: Accelerate Progress" resonates deeply with the global call for gender equality and empowerment. In this pursuit, individuals and organizations around the globe are stepping up efforts to support and uplift women, recognizing their immense potential as drivers of social, economic, and political change.

One such beacon of empowerment is Moses Sahr Fayiah, also known as King Ngolie, whose unwavering commitment to women's advancement has made a significant impact in Sierra Leone and beyond. Through his organization, the Girl Child Education Advocacy Network Sierra Leone (GCEAN-SL), King Ngolie has been a catalyst for change, championing the cause of girls' education and empowerment.

Education lies at the heart of King Ngolie's mission, recognizing it as the cornerstone for unlocking opportunities and dismantling barriers to progress. By providing school supplies and support to young girls in his community, particularly those who excel in public examinations, he not only fosters their academic success but also instils in them the confidence and determination to pursue their dreams.

Investing in women and girls yields far-reaching benefits that extend beyond individual empowerment to societal transformation. When women are educated and empowered, they contribute more effectively to their families' well-being, drive economic growth, and foster sustainable development. Moreover, empowered women are better equipped to advocate for their rights, challenge gender norms, and effect positive change in their communities.

However, despite significant strides in recent years, gender inequality persists in many parts of the world, hindering progress and perpetuating cycles of poverty and marginalization. This International Women's Day serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need to redouble our efforts in investing in women and girls, ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and leadership roles.

As we celebrate the achievements of women and girls worldwide, let us also reaffirm our commitment to advancing gender equality and women's empowerment. Let us emulate the example set by individuals like King Ngolie, whose tireless advocacy and support are paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable society.

On this International Women's Day, let us join hands to accelerate progress by investing in women and girls, empowering them to fulfil their potential and shape a brighter, more prosperous future for all. Together, we can build a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

Happy International Women's Day!
