Aya Kamikawa, born in 1968, ran for a seat in the Setagaya Ward assembly and won in 2003!!
Kamikawa submitted her election papers officially with a blank space for βsexβ. Unfortunately the government counted her win as apart of the men elected to public office.
Despite this, Kamikawa stated that they would work as a woman and fight for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community as well as women, children and people with disabilities.
Today Kamikawa is serving her sixth consecutive term as a ward councilor in Setagaya~! Continuing her fight for rights and making history. π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈπ€π€π€π€π€
