โ€œNo army has done so much with so littleโ€ - General Douglas MacArthur

Araw ng Kagitingan isnโ€™t just another holiday marked on Philippine calendars โ€” it is a reminder of the valor and sacrifice of our soldiers who fought a war not of their own making.

84 years ago, thousands of Filipino and American soldiers were ordered to march from Bataan to Pampanga. They stood uncomplaining, with no food or water, under the scorching heat and relentless threats of violence. They could have escaped torture by pledging allegiance to Japanโ€™s forces, but in the spirit of patriotism, they resisted for as long as they could, holding on not just for survival, but for the hope of a liberated nation.

Beyond looking back on history, may we carry forward the same courage in our everyday lives by standing against injustice, defending truth and freedom, and taking steps toward a better Philippines.

Light has triumphed over darkness, love over hatred, truth over falsehood, forgiveness over revenge, and goodness over evil. Following the days of His betrayal, arrest, crucifixion, and burial, Christโ€™s resurrection reminds us that no suffering is permanentโ€”that hope will always prevail.

On this festive day, we remember the people in the Middle East, where the escalating war continues to bring loss and destruction around the world. We also stand in solidarity with the marginalized sectors of our own country, who continue to face injustice, inequality, and hardship in their daily lives.

In the face of worldly conflicts, may the light of Easter inspire efforts to promote harmony, bring down the barriers that create division, and impel us to become bearers of hope ourselves, especially for those who need it most.
