Earlier today, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines, together with representatives from the US Department of State, completed the series of provincial coordination meetings at Virac, Catanduanes to officially launch the Early Recovery for Infrastructure, Shelter, and Economic Support in the Philippines (Early RISE PH) project.

The team paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Catanduanes, represented by its Supervising Administrative Officer, Remelito Cabrera, where CRS Philippines presented how Early RISE PH aims to make a difference in the province.

Transect walks were also conducted in Brgy. Pagsanghan at the Municipality of San Miguel and Brgy. Benticayan in the Municipality of Baras to get an initial sense of the demands on the ground, before the official site evaluations begin.

The US Department of State has committed almost USD 5 million for this early recovery initiative, aimed to directly support 10,660 households devastated by Super Typhoon Uwan in Catanduanes and Albay and the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu.

CRS Philippines, together with local Caritas partners will be implementing this year-long program to deliver an integrated shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and livelihood recovery assistance. Among the key interventions are trainings in hazard-safe techniques for local builders, shelter, latrine, and water system repairs, group enterprise grants, and cash vouchers for starting capital.

By ensuring safe and dignified homes, reducing risk of water-borne diseases, and restoring self-reliance in affected communities, CRS Philippines’ Early RISE PH ensures that communities recover

safely, rebuild their local economies, and establish long-term disaster resilience.

LOOK: Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines’ Forest Flavors Project (FFP) successfully completed the Coffee Farmer Household Baseline Survey across three areas in Bukidnon!

The survey captures a snapshot of the conditions before any intervention is delivered—effectively setting the reference values onto which the FFP’s activities will be measured against to assess on-the-ground impacts.

With support from the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), 210 coffee farmer households across Manolo Fortich, San Fernando, and Malaybalay City were interviewed from July 3 to July 18, 2026.

The FFP also ensured data consistency and safeguards by readying its field staff through an enumerator orientation on June 11, 2026.

With baseline data now in hand, the FFP team will move forward with data validation, cleaning, and analysis to produce the official baseline report. This dataset will anchor all future monitoring of project outcomes—from increased farmer incomes and improved coffee quality to stronger market linkages, better access to finance, and enhanced forest stewardship practices in Bukidnon.

We are deeply grateful to the 210 coffee farmer households who opened their doors and shared their stories with us, and to our dedicated enumerators and PEF partners who made this data collection possible.

Despite the rains, today’s Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) monitoring mission at the Pateros Municipal Hall was a success!

Facilitated by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines’ Strengthening Communities’ Preparedness to Mitigate Health Risks during Emergencies (PRIME) Project and representatives from the Municipal Health Office, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H), and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the TaiwanICDF delegation was given a look into how PRIME transformed the municipality’s capacity to respond to complex health risks arising from disasters.

The teams and delegation paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Gerald German. Participants shared conversations about the nature of disasters faced by the municipality, where Mayor German included the threat of fire emergencies as a persistent problem.

Participants reflected on the PRIME trainings they attended, such as the Basic Health Emergency Response Operations (HERO) training and the Mass Casualty Management, noting how these impacted their daily activities on the ground. DRRM Officer Marco Pielago hopes that the trainings be done regularly and at scale.

Topics surrounding the continuity of PRIME’s interventions in Pateros were explored, touching on the possibility of train-the-trainer courses to equip force multipliers.

Dr. Wen-Chu Chiang of the TaiwanICDF delegation shared some best practices, such as gamifying disaster training and online refresher tests on a dedicated website, to serve as starting points for a future brainstorming session.

The team was toured into the DRRM Command and Control Center that feature surveillance systems scattered across 10 barangays, while the Masikap Health Center showcased its services.

After the recent approval of its DRRM-H Ordinance, this successful monitoring mission adds on to Pateros’ wins as they continue to prime their health systems’ forces, skills, and know-how for disasters.

Through CRS Philippines’ Forest Flavors Project, Iloilo’s coffee industry is set to journey on a more sustainable path! ☕️

On August 3, a Coffee Roadmap Presentation and Validation Workshop was recently conducted by the Iloilo Coffee Industry Council at the Goldberry Hotel in Iloilo City.

The activity gathered representatives from provincial government agencies, farmers' organizations and leaders, private sector partners, and other key stakeholders in the coffee industry.

The workshop served as a venue to present the initial draft of the Iloilo Coffee Roadmap, gather feedback from stakeholders, and validate the proposed priorities and strategies to ensure that it reflects the needs and aspirations of the province's coffee sector.

The main objective of the workshop was to ensure that the roadmap accurately responds to the current situation, opportunities, and challenges faced by the coffee industry in Iloilo Province.

Through the workshop, multi-stakeholder commitment was forged to enable a more competitive, inclusive, and sustainable coffee industry in the province.

LOOK: Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines’ Forest Flavors Project (FFP) engaged coffee farmers, processors, government agencies, financial institutions, and provincial offices to continue strengthen the Isabela Province’s coffee sector! ☕️

Through a Strategic Planning Workshop held from July 29 to 31, 2026 at the DA-CVRC Compound, San Felipe, Ilagan City, Isabela, the FFP convened participants to identify priority interventions and address key industry challenges.

Participants highlighted gaps in technical knowledge, quality planting materials, market information, and farmer data, while also agreeing on the importance of establishing a strong Coffee Council to drive roadmap implementation.

Stakeholders further recommended integrating the Coffee Industry Roadmap into the Provincial Development Plan to secure government support and resource allocation.

Reinforcing this momentum, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Michael Paggabao, emphasized the strong local and global demand for coffee and affirmed DTI’s commitment to supporting the growth of the Isabela coffee industry.

The workshop ended on a high note as the first Provincial Coffee Industry Roadmap and its multi-stakeholder Coffee Council was created. These shall provide strategic direction and coordinate efforts toward a more competitive and sustainable coffee industry in the province.

LOOK: With support from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines’ Strengthening Communities’ Preparedness to Mitigate Health Risks during Emergencies (PRIME) project, the Pateros Municipal Health Office (MHO) successfully finalized its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) Plan, today at the Pateros National High School!

A Milestone for Pateros: DRRM-H Ordinance Approved!

The Sangguniang Bayan of Pateros has officially approved Municipal Ordinance No. 2026-15, institutionalizing the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) system across the municipal health network.

This victory is more than legislation—it is the fruit of persistent policy advocacy by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines, working hand-in-hand with local leaders to ensure that health systems remain strong even in times of disaster.

From the lessons of typhoons, floods, earthquakes, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Pateros now stands ready with a framework that protects lives, sustains essential health services, and builds community resilience.

Today, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines’ Strengthening Communities’ Preparedness to Mitigate Health Risks during Emergencies (PRIME) project facilitated the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund’s (TaiwanICDF財團法人國際合作發展基金會) monitoring mission to Pasig City, Manila, whose six (6) super health centers and two (2) local government hospitals are among the target facilities of the PRIME project.

The TaiwanICDF delegation, composed of Dr. Wen-Chu Chiang, Ms. Ching-I Wu, and Mr. I-Lun Lu, was joined by the PRIME project team and representatives from Pasig City’s Health Office, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H), and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO)

A visit to the Rosario Super Health Center began today’s monitoring mission, where representatives from the city’s participating health facilities shared how PRIME reinforced and advanced their skills and knowledge in disaster and emergency response.

One stakeholder remarked how the trainings they received from PRIME have readied them in the event the “Big One” occurs.

The teams and delegation also paid a formal visit to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto to share updates and ways forward. The monitoring mission concluded at the Pasig City General Hospital, where the delegation explored new areas of collaboration with the city’s representatives and the hospital’s leadership. One venture is how the city can set up and integrate a health-focused disaster command center.

As opportunities, barriers, and achievements were discussed, Pasig City’s Dr. Bernard John San Marcos resounded the city’s hopes as the PRIME project nears its closing—that their learnings from PRIME be further practiced and tested at scale through a more extensive partnership with CRS Philippines and the TaiwanICDF.

WATCH: Here are the highlights of the formal turnover ceremony of temporary shelters conducted by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines, together with the Social Action Center of Aurora, on August 1, 2026 at Brgy. Diagyan, Dilasag, Aurora.

This activity symbolizes the participants’ formal acceptance of the shelter support. With over 240 households receiving a safer and more resilient home, it is our hope that these shelters renew the families’ spirits, so they can recover and begin again.
