Solar power and high frequency radios on their way to Tonu and Mokorino health centres

This week a team from MAF Technologies (Goroka), MAF in Bougainville and Bougainville’s United Church Health Authority headed out to the southern regions of mainland Bougainville. Their mission: to install solar-powered lighting and HF radio systems in two remote health clinics. These clinics are without electrical power or cell phone coverage, which means these systems have the potential to serve as a communication lifeline. Packing all the kit so it can survive over six hours of rough road and be driven through five rivers is no small feat – well done team!

We are grateful for our partnership with Bougainville’s United Church Health Authority and for the generous support of donors in the Netherlands which have enabled this installation work to go ahead.

On behalf of MAF Technologies and MAF Papua New Guinea, congratulations to Sanjaya Rasangana, Technical Services Manager, and Steven Zato, Technician, on successfully completing their Working Safely at Heights training.

This essential certification ensures our technicians can safely carry out solar and communications installations at elevated worksites while continuing to serve remote communities across Papua New Guinea.

The training was delivered by Harness Energy, with certificates presented by Susie Elai, MAF in PNG Human Resources Manager.
