📻 A lifeline for Waiki

For years, people in Waiki, a remote community between Enga, Hela and East Sepik provinces of Papua New Guinea, have struggled with limited access to essential services and reliable communication.

That is now changing.

MAF Technologies has installed a new HF radio, giving the community a reliable way to communicate, arrange flights and connect with vital services, especially during emergencies.

📡 “It’s like going on a hunting trip.”

For remote communities in Papua New Guinea, finding a mobile signal during an emergency can mean hours of walking just to make one call.

For Isaac Yuma and his community in Hewa, high-frequency radio is their lifeline.

“It’s the only reliable way to call for help.”

MAF Technologies recently relocated an HF radio system to the new MAF hangar in Balimo, strengthening communication with remote communities across Western Province.

One radio call can connect a community to a flight, medical evacuation, weather updates or help when it matters most.

PHARUS Project – Phase 1 Complete

Phase 1 of the PHARUS Project has been successfully completed in Bougainville, bringing solar power and HF radio systems to remote health centres.

Reverend Eli Pok of the United Church in Buka commended MAF and its church partners for making these essential services possible for remote communities.

MAF Technologies General Manager Bryan Mathews also praised the MAF Bougainville team for their dedication and successful completion of Phase 1.

A big thank you to the PHARUS Foundation, churches, partners and the MAF team for making this project possible. 🙏
