SIL-PNG is part of a global team, and it was a joy to have SIL Global leaders join our 70th celebration in March. SIL Global ED Dr Johnstone Ndunde spoke to the power of enduring relationships and lived it out as he met with staff and partners. We're grateful to be walking together with PNG's language communities, supported by a global team.

On 15 May, the Madi dedicated Madi Scripture portions, the first true book in the Madi language. Pray they will use the Scriptures available so far, and that God would change lives and transform communities!

Watch the welcome dance at https://www.facebook.com/reel/991486900133362. Here's the rest of the celebration!

• Photos 1-2: Everyone arrives from their various villages and starting points, mostly on foot.
• Photo 3: Singing, dancing, praising God for reaching this milestone! (see previous post for the dance and music)
• 4-5: Church and community leaders receive the Bibles, acknowledging their responsibilities for use.
• 6: Speeches.
• 7: More speeches. This is Jon Jagt, Language Program Manager for the cluster project the Madi are part of.
• 8: The translation team is recognised, and thanked. Their work continues. Nafian Saremo, Translation Advisor for the Madi, is in the foreground with a hat.
• 9: Books and audio Scripture are sold, instruction given on using the audio players.
• 10: Visitors are invited to share the Good News! In this case, Jon Jagt and Matthew Woods (pictured) had toured the villages prior to the dedication to share.
• 11: Celebrate relationships! Nafian Saremo took this picture of those who came to support him in his Translation Advisor role: his family, SIL staff (including Director and Regional Director), and other local-area colleagues who work in this cluster program. Nafian, a Gwahatike translator who helped complete the NT in his own language has been serving the Madi team as a Translation Advisor since 2002.

'Now Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, and Peter can speak our language. They are now going to all villages to tell the good news to all people.'

Beautiful. The Word is living and active!

Churches in PNG are excited for Moses, Esther, Isaiah, and David to speak in their languages too.

Every translation project is a journey, and the Madi people reached a milestone on 15 May: the dedication of their first Scripture portions! Enjoy the Madi drumbeat and song of celebration! Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak through these Scriptures to communicate God's love clearly and powerfully.

The Madi and SIL have been journeying together for some time. Check out this great video of the Madi and two other teams training together in 2023: https://www.facebook.com/SILPNG/videos/1350334562477556.

We love seeing translation stories from other countries. We'll share one from PNG soon: last week the first Scripture portions were dedicated in the Madi language of Madang Province! The Madi translators face similar challenges - and experience similar joys - to these translators in Kenya.

Can you find Madi on this map? https://pnglanguages.sil.org/resources/provinces/province/Madang/map Hint: find Saidor in the bottom right corner and go from there.

Wycliffe New Zealand did a great job capturing stories from PNG and opportunities to serve in the magazine linked in their post. Give it a read!

Contact us for more information about joining the adventure.

Papua New Guinea may be a Christian nation, but with more than 800 languages, many communities are still waiting to access God’s Word in a language they understand clearly.

See how God is moving through our partners and local believers in PNG, and how you can be part of this movement to equip local communities so more will hear and understand the Good News!

Last week's posts - the Sparks of Hope video and an aerial tour of the PNG highlands - reveal some of the human and geographic challenges in PNG. We long to see PNGns knowing and living God's Word, leading to changed lives and transformed communities; a critical part of making that happen is PNGn translators and language professionals!

PNG's challenges include delivering education in remote areas and building and maintaining roads, supporting participation in the cash economy. We offer training tailored to people from remote areas, people who desire to serve their own people or others.

The training is there, but funds are limited! For the month of May, your donations to https://silpng.org/donate are being directed to the NTEF Scholarship Fund. Help equip PNGn translators to bring God’s Word to their own people!

PNG is half of the world's second-largest island but the 53rd largest country. It is famous for leading the world in number of languages: 840 of them. This diverse language-scape presents many challenges in achieving our vision for God's Word in every language and in every life!

These photos are a brief aerial tour from Eastern Highlands to Western Highlands (passing over Chimbu and Jiwaka) and back, roughly following the Highlands Highway, a relatively high-population zone for PNG. These photos are representative ONLY of this area, as PNG's terrain is highly diverse.

'A lady in our village - part of the literacy team - got so passionate about reading the Bible in Anuki. At the beginning, she [had been] fearful, but she has built her faith on the Word, it is bringing transformation. We are seeing sparks of hope.'

Thank you Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia for sharing part of the Anuki story (Milne Bay). Thank you, Luz and Karen, for saying yes to God's call! Thank you LETRA Argentina for sending them to PNG to serve.

In the remote villages of Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea, the Anuki people are encountering Scripture in their own language — and lives are changing. Meet Luz a...
