Retail NZ says the 2026 Budget missed an opportunity to better support local businesses, stimulate spending and drive economic growth.

Retailers had hoped to see stronger measures to encourage shopping in local communities and provide more immediate relief from rising costs - particularly around freight and fuel pressures.

While there is support for investment in trade training, infrastructure and frontline policing, concerns remain around rising costs, for businesses and households.
