Eczema is a common skin condition that causes dry, itchy, and inflamed skin and often affects a lot of children and adults.
In Aotearoa’s colder seasons, symptoms can worsen due to cold air and indoor heating, making flare-ups more frequent. 🥶🔥

Please go to your nearest Emergency Department or seek urgent medical care if you experience any of the following:
➡️Signs of infection or worsening symptoms - Weeping or crusted skin, yellow or white spots/pimples, sudden flare-ups, or painful/blistered skin
➡️Feeling unwell - Fever or shivering

🚨If you or someone in your aiga is struggling to manage eczema during the colder months, reach out to our team to discuss a personalised care management plan. We’re here to support you.

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do at Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley 🙌🏽

Fa'afetai tele lava to our partners for bringing their knowledge, experience, and unique perspectives to the table as we work together to deliver meaningful outcomes and stronger support for the communities we serve.

These valued relationships enable us to share ideas, build on each other's strengths, and create lasting positive change for our aiga and wider community. ✨

The colder months are now well settled across the Hutt Valley, and many of our families living with asthma may notice symptoms becoming more active. Cold air, seasonal bugs, and spending more time indoors can all trigger flare-ups and make breathing harder than usual. 💨

To help keep your asthma well controlled, make sure you are taking your preventer inhaler as prescribed, checking your inhaler technique, and keeping your asthma action plan up to date. Staying protected with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations is also important - these are available onsite to support you and your aiga.

Keep these important tips handy for staying on top of your asthma this season:
✅Keep your home smoke and v**e free, and use cleaner heating options instead of open fires or unflued gas heaters
✅Ventilate daily by opening windows for 10–15 minutes and using extraction fans when cooking or showering
✅Reduce moisture by wiping condensation from windows
✅Prevent and treat mould using a vinegar and water mix (80/20)

If your symptoms are worsening or you're relying on your reliever inhaler more often, speak with our healthcare team early.

A delicious cake lovingly prepared by our amazing Mona - Quality Assurance Nurse, followed by singing, laughter, and celebration in honour of the beautiful culture, and heritage of Samoa 🇼🇸

Celebrate Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa 🇼🇸
“‘E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u” - “From the high mountains are the blessings of the village,”

We encourage everyone to join in, share a few words in Samoan, and celebrate the richness of our culture. Every word spoken helps keep our language strong, our stories alive, and our heritage thriving. Together, we can inspire future generations to embrace their identity with pride and ensure our Pacific languages continue to flourish for years to come. ✨

Celebrate Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa 🇼🇸
When visiting your healthcare provider this week, why not try using a few Samoan words or phrases? It's a great way to celebrate and honour the Samoan language, culture, and identity.

🙏🏽This year's theme, "‘E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu'u" - "From the high mountains are the blessings of the village,"

In healthcare, this reflects the importance of working together for the wellbeing of our people. Just as blessings flow from the mountains to the village, knowledge, care, support, and healthy choices help strengthen our families, fanau, and communities for generations to come.

We encourage you to share in our language and celebrate the richness of our culture. Every conversation helps keep our language alive and supports a thriving future for Pacific peoples and generations to come. 🌺
