Quakecore Students Chapter, Wellington is one of the four students' chapters in New Zealand.

Postgraduate research students based in Wellington, and working directly and indirectly on earthquake resilience are part of this chapter.

Today’s "QuakeCore Lightning Heat Talk – Wellington Chapter" was a great success.

A heartfelt thank you to our respected judges for their time, thoughtful feedback, and support throughout the event. Congratulations to the winner for an outstanding presentation, and well done to all the participants for sharing their ideas with confidence and passion.

The winning researchers will represent us at the QuakeCoRE Annual Meeting 2026 this September in Dunedin, hosted by QuakeCoRE: NZ Centre for Earthquake Resilience.

We also sincerely thank everyone who joined us, supported the speakers, and encouraged the participants. Your presence and enthusiasm made the event more meaningful.

Looking forward to more inspiring conversations and ideas in the future.

📢 Calling all postgraduate students (PhD and master's students)!

The QuakeCoRE Lightning Talk Competition – Wellington Heat is happening on 17 June 2026 at the Joint Centre for Disaster Research, Wellington.

This is a great opportunity to share your research with the QuakeCoRE community in a 5-minute, 5-slide format.

QuakeCoRE Student Chapter Wellington hosted an engaging Poster Design and Delivery Session on 20 May! 🎨✨

The session introduced students to Inkscape and provided a hands-on opportunity to explore new tools for designing clear, creative, and visually appealing research posters. It was great to see students learning practical design techniques, experimenting with layout and visual elements, and thinking about how to present their research more effectively.

A big thanks to (PhD student, JCDR, Massey University) and (Comms lead, JCDR, Massey University) for their valuable support and guidance in making the session interactive, useful, and enjoyable for everyone.

We truly appreciate all the students who joined us and contributed to such a positive learning environment. The chapter looks forward to organising more sessions that help students build practical research communication skills, strengthen connections, and enjoy learning together along the way!

QuakeCoRE Student Chapter Wellington held its first social gathering of the year! 🎉

The event focused on welcoming our new members and introducing the 2026 committee. It was wonderful to see student members from the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (Massey University) and Victoria University of Wellington come together to connect and build new friendships.

The evening was a great success, filled with engaging conversations, delicious pizza, and fun games. 🍕🎲

A big thank you to QuakeCoRE: NZ Centre for Earthquake Resilience for supporting students in organising these activities. We truly appreciate your continued support.

The chapter looks forward to hosting many more events throughout the year to help students grow their knowledge, strengthen networks, and, of course, have some fun along the way!
