A bit slack on the posting schedule and running low on numbers thanks to a wave of illness, but last night’s theme , Sincerity and Heart, still showed up in force.

Andrew delivered a motivational speech that bagged him Best Overall, while Ann earned herself evaluation queen of the evening with her feedback on his talk.

Coos took Most Improved with a spirited reflection on why there don’t seem to be many hearts left in the supermarket these days, either among shoppers or in the butchery.

And Rachel went gloriously off-script with a detailed account of a cardiac arrest she once attended, followed by a Table Topic on how she manages to email friends amid chaos… one of which quietly earned her Best Table Topic.

If it can go wrong it will…

Ngā mihi to Hayden for chairing tonight’s meeting and bravely stepping into what can only be described as a theme with ambition: “If it can go wrong it will”, which, against all odds, behaved itself and turned into a genuinely lovely night with only the faintest whisper of disaster lurking in the background.

We enjoyed three speeches: Rachel admitted she can be just a touch hypocritical when it comes to taking her own advice (relatable, unsettling, moving on), Andrew served up “rebellious leadership” and somehow landed us all pondering the letter P, and Phil delighted us with a dive into the historical quirks of the weather, proving once again that meteorology can, in fact, be unexpectedly entertaining.

We were joined by guests Elena and visiting Area Director Dave, both of whom added to the evening’s already impressive sense of occasion.

And now, the moment of celebration:
Best Overall: Andrew
Most Improved: Phil
Best Table Topic: Dave
Best Evaluator: Rachel

Until next week, may the chaos be minimal and the speeches be excellent.

Kia Ora reader, you've been missed. Hope your Easter break was enjoyable and you dodged a bullet with this weekends weather. Dodge a bullet was the theme of tonight's UHTM meeting, wherein members were asked to tell stories and tales in the Table Topics part of the evening on or around that theme.
Our speakers gave three awesome speeches. I'd like to thank Ash Vincent for coming down from the Spinnaker Toastmasters Club to give us the speech he's presenting at next month's District 72 contest.
We had a few apologies for the evening, I'd like to wish those who are under the weather a speedy recovery.
We'd also like to welcome Ann back from her trip overseas, and for stepping in at the 11.59:58 hour to cover the Grammarians role. Word of the day - Idiom.... Who'd a thought it!? 😁
Right that's it from me, thanks again to all that attended. Ash good luck in your contest. Remember to check your flys 🤗
Our achievers were:
Most Improved - Sudhakar
Best Table Topics - Andrew
Best Evaluator - Karl
Best Overall - Ash
Till next time reader.

Dear UHTM number one fan. Thanks for sticking with us. These posts need all the eyes we can get. Thanks for your two.
This evening Coos held the reins of running the club agenda.
A good turn out was had with just a couple of apologies given.
Our two awesome speeches covered the topic of the weather and its interpretation within Maori folklore, thanks Phil, and not putting things off by just getting started, thanks Bahadur.
Clever choice of Table Topics provided and controlled by Sudhakar. Which was his first time doing the role. These were met with equally interesting and witty stories from those that were voluntold to come to the floor.
The timing lights were described by Andrew using different coloured Easter eggs. I picked the wrong day to be a diabetic 😳.
Our achievers were:
Best Table Topics - Rachel
Best Evaluator - Karen
Most Improved - Sudhakar
Best Overall - Phil
That's it for this week. We wish you all the best over the Easter break. Remember to reduce it down to excessive!

Dear Reader, tonight UHTM Club held their Interpretive Reading and Tall Tales contests.
With four contestants in each.
A very enjoyable and entertaining night was had by all.
The Interpretive Reading had Bahadur place 3rd, Karen place 2nd and Rachel place 1st. Well done to Sudhakar who placed 4th with his first attempt at a Toastmasters club contest. You did a great job.
For the Tall Tales contest Karl came 4th, 3rd place was Bahadur, 2nd place was Rachel and taking the Horse's trophy (quite literally...) was Karen . Well done all! 👏👏👏
Big thank you to all those that covered roles in the background, the Judges, timekeepers, ballot counters, Sgt at Arms, not forgetting Coos for the brews and nourishment over the break.
Quick shout out to Ramesh on his second visit to the club and Ally on her third (3 weeks on the trot😀).
Next week UHTM will be back to its normal meeting program.
Same time, same Bat channel.

In case you blinked and missed it, yesterday’s Division J Contests delivered the full banquet: inspiring speeches, quick wit, hearty laughs, further evidence that one of our Upper Hutt Club members should not be put in charge of coffee, and proof that no one should ever act their age. All that, and it turned out there was an actual banquet too, which was a lovely bonus!

Congratulations to our contest winners:
International Speech Contest: Carmen R.
Evaluation Contest: Carmen R.
Table Topics Contest: George C.
Humorous Speech Contest: Neha P.

Well done to everyone who took part, it was a brilliant day.

Ngā mihi to all those who helped the day run smoothly and especially Karen Hoyland without who it wouldn’t have happened!

And a special shout-out to John for taking third place in the Humorous Speech Contest!

Tonight's UHTM's theme was An Interview With A Toastmaster. Cleverly thought up and put together by Karen our Chair for the evening, with the evening covering why Toastmasters is an excellent means to help individuals become confident in public speaking, interviews and life in general.
Only two speakers presented. With John testing out a potentially new humourous speech and Sonali giving a powerful and heartfelt impromptu speech covering why she has to take a bit of time out from Toastmasters. Sonali enjoy your break and remember we're here when you know you have time to join the gang again 🤗.
Everyone spoke on Table Topics which had a vampireish theme, thanks Rachel, very clever titles provided.
With Ally on her second visit to the club giving an awesome introduction to herself.
Our achievers for the evening were:
Best Evaluator - tied with Bahadur and Phil.
Most Improved - Ally
Best Table Topics and best Overall - John.
All in all a most enjoyable evening. Well done to all. To those who couldn't make it through illness, we all wish you a speedy recovery.
Till next week Bat fans, same Bat time, same Bat channel.

Dear Reader,
It's been a week, you've been missed more than a big bag of missed things.
Let me tell about tonights meeting at UHTM.
Well it was Phil's (Philippa's) first time Chairing, and what a great job she did! She came up with the theme of Great Inventions and was able provide amazing stories of incredible inventions throughout the evening. Great segways, well done.
Three superb speeches. Sudhakar with his ice breaker speech. Worthy of following up in a contest. Rachel with her persuasive speech on becoming a committee member and Andrew with his up coming contest speech. Which is more polished every time he gives it.
We had Ally as our club visitor for the evening. Great to see you Ally. Hope to hear a bit about you when you next hopefully visit.
Our achievers were:
Best Table Topics - Karl
Best Evaluator - John
Most Improved - Sudhakar
Best Overall - Andrew
Will leave you with this little factoid. Did you know women invented beer? .... No way! This cannot be! But then again, it does explain a lot 🤪..... Jokes.
Till next time reader.
Take care and reduce it down to excessive!
