π§ͺπ’ Science, Maths, Language and Play! π’π§ͺ
Tomorrow's session 5th June 930-1130

This week our Early Childhood Education Diploma students from Ara South Canterbury had the opportunity to design and set up the learning environment for Connect and Play, creating engaging science and maths experiences for tamariki to explore, investigate, question, and discover.
Through hands-on learning experiences, children develop early mathematical thinking as they sort, count, measure, compare, and problem-solve. It encourages exploration, scientific concepts through observation, experimentation, curiosity, and wonder.
One of the most important aspects of these experiences is the rich language that develops alongside learning. When we take time to talk with tamariki, ask open-ended questions, introduce new vocabulary, and listen to their ideas, we help build the foundations for communication, literacy, critical thinking, and confidence.
Simple conversations such as:
π¬ "What do you notice?"
π¬ "Why do you think that happened?"
π¬ "How could we find out?"
π¬ "Can you tell me about your thinking?"
encourage children to make connections, extend their understanding, and develop a love of learning.
A thoughtfully prepared environment provides endless opportunities for exploration, but it is the meaningful interactions between adults and children that truly bring learning to life.
Well done to our ECE students for creating such inviting spaces where tamariki could learn, play, communicate, and flourish together. π±β¨ Grown Together
