SCDL Junior Section

SCDL Junior Section The Junior Section of the S.C.D.L. offers the chance for Primary (from 8 yrs) and High School Students (Yr 9-13) to perform annually at The Playhouse, Timaru.

The Junior Section offers the chance for school children aged 8 and over to perform on stage. They learn stage craft in a fun, rewarding environment, make new friends and gain confidence. The Junior Section stages two shows a year for each of it's age groups, Juniors - Primary and Juniors - High School. Auditions are usually held in November/December for the following years Juniors - High School

production for Year 9 - Year 13 high school age group staged near auditions, the end of Term 1. Juniors - Primary auditions (for primary school age children from 8 years and up) are usually mid year with the show staged at the end of Term 3 of that year.

Today was all about getting the script in our hands, meeting the story, and hearing those first voices bring the swamp to life 🧅🐸

So proud of the focus, energy, and enthusiasm in the room — this cast is already showing so much promise. If this is how we’re starting, I can’t wait to see where we end up.

The adventure has officially begun…

SHREK THE MUSICAL – CASTING UPDATE 💚🧅

Thank you to every ogre, donkey, fairy-tale creature, and talented human who stepped into the swamp to audition! The show has been cast, and we’re just tidying up a few magical details before we reveal the full cast list.

We know waiting can feel like being stuck in a dragon-guarded tower, but your patience means the world to us.

💚 SHREK THE MUSICAL – AUDITIONS! 💚
After two amazing workshops, it’s finally time… AUDITIONS ARE HERE!
Whether you’re dreaming of being an ogre, a fairytale creature, or joining the ensemble, we can’t wait to see you shine.

📍 Sat 6th December – Roncalli School Hall
🕙 From 10am (until finished)

📍 Tue 9th December – South Canterbury Drama League
🕢 7:30pm

⏰ Please arrive 30 minutes before your audition time to check in, warm up, and settle those nerves.

👉 What to bring:
✨ A bottle of water
✨ Comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in
✨ Lots of energy, personality, and your best fairytale spirit!

We can’t wait to see the magic and talent you bring.

We’re going green in 2026… and no, it’s not about recycling! It’s ogres, donkeys, dragons, and fairy tale mayhem as we bring Shrek The Musical to life on stage!

With a powerhouse team of Sarah Prentice (Director), Catherine Anderson (Musical Director), and Ella Neutz (Choreographer), this show promises laughs, heart, and a whole lot of swampy fun.
