There was a good crowd for this month's BA5, which was hosted by Specsavers.

Our hosts, Samuel and John from Specsavers, gave an interesting talk, including details of John's trip to Fiji with the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Congratulations to Mark, who won this month's business card draw.

Thanks to CAPS Hauraki for hosting April's Business After 5. We had a good turnout, and it was very interesting to hear about the vital work that CAPS Hauraki does in our region. Jo Taylor, general manager of CAPS Hauraki, presented an overview of the free services CAPS offers and how its programmes have made a huge difference in our community. For nearly 40 years, CAPS Hauraki has provided essential services to some of the most vulnerable people.

We also welcomed Deepak Gautam as a new member of the Thames Business Association.

We apologise that we had to close the Info Centre so early today. There was a "health and safety" incident which caused the closure, resulting in our space stinking so badly no one could work here, much less enter the building. For those who need more explanation ... two people became involved in a heated "discussion" and one of them threw some foul-smelling substance at the other ... with the stench permeating the building and the courtyard in front of the Civic Centre. We offer sincere thanks to the wonderful lady from Green by Nature who stayed to help clean up the mess (and assist the person who was covered in the substance) and to the Council, whose team came to power wash the windows and affected area. They deserve real kudos for doing such a horrible, but necessary job.
