A big thank you to everyone who joined us for another fantastic Business After 5 on Wednesday evening, hosted by the Thames-Coromandel District Council Economic Development Team.

We were delighted to see such a strong turnout, with members taking the opportunity to connect, catch up and hear from a range of organisations working to support business and economic development across our region.

Mitch King, TCDC's Economic Development Lead, provided an update on current initiatives and opportunities, while Momentum Waikato shared how they are helping to attract investment to benefit our community. We also heard from Kylie Hawker-Green, Destination Hauraki Coromandel, who highlighted the success of current tourism marketing campaigns and outlined upcoming opportunities for local businesses to get involved.

A special thank you also goes to Tradies, who kept everyone well fed with an excellent selection of food throughout the evening.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Warren Sly.

Warren was a founding member of the Thames Business Association, a former Chair, and a passionate advocate for our business community. He gave generously of his time, experience and leadership, helping shape the Association and championing Thames as a place to live, work and do business.

Beyond the Business Association, Warren’s dedication to our wider community was extraordinary. Through his many years of service, including his leadership of the Thames RSA and involvement in countless community initiatives, he made a lasting difference to the people and place he cared so deeply about.

On behalf of the Thames Business Association Committee and our members, we extend our sincere condolences to Warren’s wife, children, grandchildren, family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you, Warren, for your leadership, your generosity, and your unwavering commitment to our community. Your legacy will continue to be felt for many years to come.

There was a good crowd for this month's BA5, which was hosted by Specsavers.

Our hosts, Samuel and John from Specsavers, gave an interesting talk, including details of John's trip to Fiji with the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Presentation by Specsavers as the team shares their journey in optics, the Specsavers business model, and the community initiatives they support, including Community School Screening, Optical waste recycling programme and the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Thanks to CAPS Hauraki for hosting April's Business After 5. We had a good turnout, and it was very interesting to hear about the vital work that CAPS Hauraki does in our region. Jo Taylor, general manager of CAPS Hauraki, presented an overview of the free services CAPS offers and how its programmes have made a huge difference in our community. For nearly 40 years, CAPS Hauraki has provided essential services to some of the most vulnerable people.

We also welcomed Deepak Gautam as a new member of the Thames Business Association.
