It was Robot Carnival Day today! Using the VEX gear, kids made carnival rides with some pretty interesting names and terrifying action. Thankfully no tiny figurines used as test dummies were harmed - though I did hear one lost his hair!

Tomorrow we switch to Kitchen Chemistry 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳⚛🧪. It's going to get messy!!!

It was Freestyle Robotics at STEAM-ED's holiday programme today!
From complete beginners through to our more experienced, 5yrs through to 13yrs, each of our youngsters had their own VEX Go or IQ kit to create and learn with. While they had the freedom to build whatever they wanted, there was also a suggested challenge to make a 6 legged animal or bug, and to programme it if required.
Nice work kids (and staff). Excitement can get noisy!

The kids who come to our holiday programmes always love watching Mark Rober's videos, so today we used his "Carnival Challenge" curriculum to explore how carnivals swing the odds in their favour using the laws of physics to make their games hard to win!

It was great to see the thought and creativity that went into the games they made, and then went around trying to win other groups games.
Awesome day of fun, hands-on, creative learning, which we will definitely repeat using different activities next holidays!

Day one of our holiday programme was based on Toy Story 5 in which the theme is to put away the digital devices and go back to good old fashioned play with friends..
So today the kids made toys, hats, played games and developed their imaginations with friends - new and old!

Tomorrow it's Robot Discovery Day with lots of new children set to start their robot learning journey at STEAM-ED.

Introducing our next event just for the Girls! It's 'Robot Dance Party' time!!
Participants will be supported to create a piece of music using BandLab, and then programme their robot to dance to the music!
Decorate your pre-built robot to party!!

This should be a tonne of learning fun! Thanks again for support from Gattung Foundation for supporting these 2hr events for girls aged 7-16yrs, to encourage more young women into STEAM.

Here are our programmes for Term 4, starting week 2 of the school term.
In the Human Operating System classes we will cover everything except reproduction - we will leave that to you and when you think your child is ready for it!

Junior classes cost $220 for 8 x 1.5hr classes (snack provided).
Senior and Robotics classes cost $248 for 8 x 2hr classes (snack provided).
If you miss the start and join in late you will only pay for the remaining sessions for your child.

We are thrilled to welcome Sophia to our team of Educators at STEAM-ED. In her first week she jumped right on in and has already delivered in-school and onsite robotics lessons, as well as run an activity with a visiting school. She did an awesome job, and we know the kids will love her!

It was a pleasure to work with all the Yr4 classes from Tahatai Coast School last Thursday and Friday. The theme was 'Physical Science; Cause and Effect, States of Matter' so we made bioplastic from milk, Boba from alginate (seaweed), looked at how different substances absorbed water, and learnt about acids and bases.

We look forward to all of their Yr2 and 3 students visiting us later in the year!
