The Electoral Commission has said it will default this year to sending election information to many voters by email instead of post.

The commission said that people will now get their EasyVote card and list of local electoral candidates by email. You'll only automatically get it in the post if they don't have an email on file for you.

The Digital Equity Coalition and Māori technology initiative Te Hapori Matihiko have criticised the changes online, accusing the Electoral Commission of quietly changing how it reaches out to voters before the 7 November election.

Poll: Just a quarter of voters want super age raised to 67
Currently, all eligible residents aged 65 and over can get the Government-funded pension. There are currently an estimated more than 960,000 people getting super, costing $24.7 billion this financial year, according to government figures. But as our population continues to age, that number is forecast to rise to $31.2 billion by 2030.
As questions continue to swirl around the sustainability of superannuation, could the end to pension tension be lifting the eligibility age to 67?

Just under half of eligible voters thought the Government's top priority should be keeping NZ super eligibility unchanged.

“We saw a need for some housing for older women because there is a growing cohort of homelessness among older women in our city and in our rohe, unfortunately,” she said.

“So this is a kaupapa where a lot of older homeless women will find a calm and safe place to stay, be nurtured and have some support and also be helped into long-term housing.”

A new transitional home for older homeless women has opened in response to a growing need in Tauranga.
