The Runanga is the mandated iwi authority for Ngati Toa Rangatira and is the administrative body of iwi estates and assets.

✨ Ngāti Toa rangatahi excels through sport, culture and education

At just 15 years old, Hikareia Tepania-Stephens is already balancing an impressive range of sporting, cultural and academic commitments.

A dedicated Waka Ama paddler since the age of six, Hikareia has had a standout 2026 season, earning the Kereopa Memorial Trophy, which recognises young paddlers who demonstrate initiative, perseverance, and courage.

Alongside his success on the water, Hikareia represents Manukura in rugby union and rugby league, remains strongly connected to his culture through kapa haka, and continues to demonstrate exceptional commitment, discipline, and determination across every aspect of his life.

Hikareia acknowledges the tautoko received through Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira sports grants, supporting him to represent his whānau and iwi with pride as he continues striving towards his goals.

Kura Toa appoints founding Tumuaki

Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira Tumuaki, Callum Kātene, and the Establishment Board of Kura Toa are pleased to announce the appointment of Kathleen O’Hare (Te Ātiawa ki Waiwhetū, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) as the founding Tumuaki of Kura Toa.

With over 30 years of educational leadership experience across Aotearoa and internationally, Kathleen brings deep expertise in school leadership and education system transformation.

Kathleen's appointment marks a significant milestone in the establishment of Kura Toa, a kura grounded in Ngāti Toa Rangatira values and committed to creating an innovative learning environment where identity, belonging, and achievement sit at the heart of learning.

What a weekend at Haka Mai Regionals in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. With a record 13 roopu taking the stage, including three representing Ngāti Toa Rangatira, we couldn’t be prouder. Whānau tuned in from around Aotearoa and across the world to tautoko.

We acknowledge the leaders, performers, and the many people working behind the scenes whose dedication, and commitment made it all possible.

Congratulations to the roopu who earned their place at Te Matatini 2027. Your success reflects the strength, talent, and future of kapa haka across our rohe.
