It was fantastic to see our business community in the spotlight again as Porirua launched its first ever 'Porirua Rocks' event in April.

What started off as a conversation between Smithcorp Hospitality founder, Oliver Smith and Fix-it-Fitzy's, Billy Fitzpatrick ended up with the full backing of the Porirua City Council to bring the crowds to Te Rauparaha Arena to enjoy some of the areas best food and drink from Abandoned Brewery, the B**r Engine, Sushil's Musclechef Kitchen & Cafe, Elemental Eats, and more.

Some of you may have seen this story covered on Seven Sharp this week, showing off a lot of familiar faces and businesses. This is a heartening reminder that the rest of the country are viewing our city as a destination town, with a flourishing hospitality and arts sector.

The first-of-its-kind event for the area saw wrestlers from around the country compete for the top spot in the Porirua competition.

Thank you to all who joined us for our Business After 5 Hon. Barbara Edmonds.

It was a privilege to have Hon. Barbara Edmonds, our local MP for Mana and the newly appointed Labour Party spokesperson for Finance and Infrastructure, share her insights and plans for the term ahead.

During the event, Minister Edmonds introduced, budding entrepreneur Eseta, featured in the second photo. Eseta crafts a range of hair accessories, including clips and scrunchies, using repurposed local school uniforms. Not only do these accessories meet uniform requirements with style, but they also contribute to minimising waste. Well done Eseta for your fantastic initiative!

Don't forget, Minister Edmond's office is always open and available for booking by anyone in the community needing space for meetings, sports groups, dance practice, and more.
