Our ears were soaking up the beautiful voice of Rensha Bouwer, owner of Providence Pantry at our Women's Breakfast last week, along with her beautiful mother.

Rensha came from fine arts, before heading to culinary school. She trained under some of New Zealand's best, including time working alongside Michael van de Elzen and in kitchens across Auckland and Waiheke Island. The head chef lifestyle of late nights and early mornings eventually took its toll, and with family already settled in Paeroa, she made the move and opened Providence Pantry.

Here's what Rensha wants you to know about Providence Pantry - it's a deli.... not a café, not a bakery. Think gourmet cheeses, fresh made food, European imports, New Zealand artisan products, olive oils, olives, nuts, and seasonings. It's a foodie destination and the quality is the point.

Rensha's main focus is on serving here in Paeroa. She wants to make good quality, well sourced, great tasting food and keep it local. She's been making the most of improving her social media presence and it is paying off - thanks to helping hands for filming and been great at consistency!

Keep an eye out for Saturday street pancakes, and watch this space for cooking demonstrations and open evenings.

Find Providence Pantry in Paeroa and give them a follow to stay across what's coming up.

Can you spare an hour for Paeroa?

The Paeroa Business Association manages flags along the main street throughout the year and we're looking for volunteers to help change them.

We have around four different flags to cover Anzac Day, Matariki, and Christmas and in between all of these are the Welcome to Paeroa flags. Each change takes about an hour and happens a few times a year.

Our next change is coming up this month for Matariki and we'd love some extra hands.

Boomerang bags are coming around again.

At our recent Business After 5, we had the pleasure of meeting the ladies behind Made with Love in Paeroa, Annette and Margaret, who are creating Boomerang Bags once more and their special Christmas Bags.

They're selling reusable bags at just $4 each aimed to be ready for Christmas with Christmas designs. These are perfect for wrapping up purchases, gifting products, or adding a little something special for your customers at Christmas time.

Numbers are needed ahead of distribution in November, so if you're interested don't leave it too late.

A big thank you to our outgoing secretary, Chris Laurenson ☺️

Chris has been our secretary for the last wee while and she has been amazing!
She's worked hard to make our processes clearer and more future-proof, took real care with minutes, kept us on track, and was very much a boots-on-the-ground person. She often was out visiting businesses in person and we are very grateful for the big hand she had in organising our Shop & Win promotion.

Thank you Chris, we're grateful for everything you brought to the role.

𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱?

At our May BA5, we heard from Corey Hinde of Good Oil Marketing, who gave us a straight-talking look at what actually works in digital marketing for local businesses.

Here are three takeaways from the night:

🟠 Before you spend a dollar on ads, build MASSIVE trust first...
Running a Google Ads campaign for a business that hasn't laid the groundwork just might flop. Your social media presence, Google Business Profile, and online reputation all need to be working before paid ads will work for you.

🟠 Build social proof deliberately...
Ask your customers for before and after photos. Give them a QR code or a direct link to leave a Google or Facebook review. Make it easy for them to do it on the spot. Testimonials are key.

🟠 Then take the 3C Challenge.
Connect with 1 person. Make 1 comment. Create 1 piece of content. Every day. Even two minutes a day done consistently builds the kind of trust that makes everything else work.

If you're keen to get found online and want a hand with Google Ads or SEO - get in touch with Corey at Good Oil Marketing

Missed this month's BA5 or want to become part of our association, come to our next meeting or flick us a message.

Well Done The Valley Profile! That's an awesome achievement, thanks for being an integral part of the community!

So very excited to show off the plethora of awards we picked up at tonight’s 2026 Community Newspaper Awards!
Alice Parminter came runner-up in the Best Senior News Journalist category.
We also won the Best Community Involvement category for her investigative series looking at methamphetamine use in Thames.
And finally and most spectacularly: The Valley Profile was named Best Community Newspaper, winning the Frank Veale Memorial Award!
So much hard work over this last year, and so lovely to have that acknowledged ❤️
