🌊🐋 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐡𝐢 𝐎𝐫𝐚 | 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐡 🐋🌊

On Tuesday last week, our Rangatahi Ora volunteers completed Project Jonah Marine Mammal Medic training. 💯

This kaupapa helps equip our team with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond should any tohorā or aihe strand along our coastline here in Te Tai Tokerau. 🌊

It was an incredible opportunity to deepen our understanding of marine mammal welfare and strengthen our ability to support these taonga species when they need us most. 🐋

Over the years Rangatahi Ora have been growing a team of rangatahi and pakeke who are ready and able to respond when needed. 🧳

Ngā mihi nui to the awesome facilitators Louisa and Darren, PJ Volunteer Elijah, and to Shelley, Jess & the Department of Conservation for supporting this important training. 🙏🏾

The final day of our wānanga celebrated everything we had learnt over the weekend. It brought us together in the spirit of manaakitanga through our hākari, where our rangatahi, kaimahi, whānau, and hau kāinga shared the kai Māori gathered, prepared, and cooked throughout the weekend. 🌿🍽️

Tēnei te mihi ki ngā ringaringa, ki ngā waewae katoa o te kaupapa nei. To every hand and every heart who contributed to this beautiful wānanga, we thank you. 🙌🏾🙏🏽

Ngā mihi nui ki Environs Te Uri o Hau for their support and partnership in helping bring this kaupapa to life for our people and our rangatahi. 🤍

Today we worked together to prepare kai for tomorrow’s hākari. 🤍

We completed weaving rourou kai baskets, both square and rectangular, that will hold our kai in the hāngī as a natural alternative to tinfoil. We also learnt how to create natural plates using tī kōuka and harakeke, reminding us how resourceful our tūpuna were and their deep respect for te taiao. 🌿🧺

Uncle Joe McLeod guided our rōpū in naming each rongoā we harvested inanahi and matching its whakapapa and medicinal properties alongside our kai, from the whenua, moana, and rangi. This strengthened our understanding of how everything is connected. 🌏

Some of our experienced rangatahi stepped into leadership today, guiding pakeke in weaving rourou and supporting the preparation of kai in the wharekai. It was beautiful to see mātauranga shared across generations. ✨

Our rourou are now filled and ready, awaiting the hāngī tomorrow morning. 🍽️

Rangatahi Ora are privileged once again to support Uncle Joe McLeod as he delivers E Kai Maori at Naumai Marae, alongside Te Uri o Hau (Environs), hau kāinga and whānau. 🤍

Together, we are connecting over kai and mātauranga, sharing a common purpose of reviving traditional knowledge and practices of our tūpuna. 🌿

This wānanga brings together rangatahi and pakeke from across the rohe and marks the last of its kind in Te Tai Tokerau. 🌏

Today we strengthened the bonds of whanaungatanga, wove rourou kai (baskets), and foraged for rongoā at the base of Maungaraho. ⛰️

Let us continue to reconnect with the whenua and honour our relationship with te taiao. 🧺🌿
Kai is more than sustenance. It is connection, identity, and whakapapa. ✨

🚨 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 – 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐒 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 🚨

Kia ora everyone,

We’ve had a lot of people checking in and asking for updates, so we wanted to provide a quick update for our community.

At this stage, our trailer has still not been located. Police enquiries are ongoing and we continue to work with them as information comes through.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who shared posts, checked CCTV footage, reached out with possible sightings, or supported us in any way. The support from our community has been overwhelming and reminds us why we continue this mahi for our rangatahi.

Despite losing our trailer, we still showed up at Waitangi and delivered the day as best we could for our young people and whānau. We’re proud that our kaupapa continued, even in tough circumstances.

Because the trailer is custom-built, we remain hopeful that if it appears somewhere, someone will recognise it.

If anyone sees a trailer matching ours parked somewhere unusual or abandoned, please contact Police quoting file number 260203/1296, or message us directly with the location.

Thank you again to everyone standing alongside our rangatahi and organisation during this time.

Ngā mihi nui,
Sharneece Joyce (Rangatahi Ora)

🏡 𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐇𝐈 𝐎𝐑𝐀 𝐊𝐈 𝐖𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐈 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 🏡

Waitangi 2026 didn’t start how we planned, with our trailer stolen just days before. But we made light of the situation and did what we needed to do for our rangatahi and the kaupapa.

Our space brought rangatahi and whānau together through creativity 🎨🤝

✨ Designing your own pūrerehua 🦋
🌿 Weaving rourou kai baskets 🧺
🎨 Rangatahi pakihi showcasing their creations 🛍️
🏡 And providing a safe space for our young people to hang out, connect and just be 💬

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to tautoko, awhi and show love 🙏🏽💛

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who helped make Waitangi 2026 happen:

🚨 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 - 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑 🚨

Kia ora everyone,

I’d like to provide an update regarding our stolen trailer.

I can see a lot of information currently circulating online, however at this stage I’m unable to confirm further details until we hear back from Police.

The details we can currently confirm are:

• Our trailer was stolen at 1:48am yesterday morning from Total Storage, Haruru.
• A vehicle was captured on CCTV towing the trailer.
• The footage has been provided directly to Police and we are waiting for further updates.
• The vehicle was seen travelling away from Paihia towards Puketona roundabout and northbound.
• CCTV footage has identified the registration of the vehicle involved. This vehicle has not been reported stolen, and authorities have since visited the associated property as part of their enquiries.
• Police file number: 260203/1296

This trailer is a one-off, custom-built trailer. While someone could repaint it or change the number plate, the structure and design is unique, and it will still be recognisable.

We are a struggling youth organisation — we are not wealthy, and the loss of this trailer is more than just losing equipment for one kaupapa. It has taken us five years of saving to build what we have. This trailer carries all the resources we use to run programmes and support young people in our communities.

Unfortunately this loss is not covered by insurance, meaning this is now a cost directly impacting the young people and communities we serve, as we will have to start again from scratch.

So please, if anyone knows the whereabouts of our trailer or sees it somewhere, please contact me or Police quoting the file number so we can safely recover it.

We are currently here for Waitangi to support youth and provide free activities, and we just hope we can still do this on Friday.

Ngā mihi
Sharneece (Rangatahi Ora)
