Te Piringa Pai

Te Piringa Pai We are a Rangatahi Provider delivering support services to young people and their whānau based in Dargaville.

Our mission is to help Rangatahi through lifes many challenges, assisting them to achieve goals and aspirations and reach their full potential We are Te Piringa Pai, a Kaipara-based support services provider for Rangatahi. Grounded in Te Ao Māori principles, we aim to demonstrate manaakitanga to our future leaders by providing them with support and refuge while navigating life’s challenges. Our pu

rpose is to enhance the wellbeing of Rangatahi by strengthening their sense of identity and culture, confidence, and physical and mental resilience. We currently offer 2 kaupapa

Te Haerenga
A 5 day Marae based programme for Rangatahi aged 11 - 14 where Rangatahi will learn about the history, whakapapa and pūrākau (stories) of the area, climb the ancestral maunga of Kaipara, participate in a 2 day waka ama programme, learn about kaitiakitanga and how to protect our environment alongside our local Iwi and Environmental specialists, and kohikai - collecting kaimoana, fishing and foraging. In the evenings Rangatahi are taught te reo, local waiata and haka, build whanaungatanga through games and fun activities. We also spend time sharing our dreams, goal setting and learning about how to overcome some of the challenges they are facing in their lives. Our haerenga ends with a graduation ceremony on the Marae with their whānau attending to celebrate and acknowledge our future leaders. Tāraitia
We provide free support for Rangatahi aged 16-18 years and are currently not in education, employment or training. We will encourage them to identify their goals and aspirations and empower them along the way to succeed. Our Kaiārahi, Youth Mentors, will work with each young person to tailor individual pathway plans and provide ongoing support to achieve their goals. Using our extensive local and regional networks our aim is to assist our Rangatahi to gain a placement within a pathway that aligns with their goals whether it be employment, education or work-based training. Ōtamatea Toi Māori Festival

It has been a real privilege for Te Piringa Pai to lead the Kapa Haka at Dargaville Intermediate and Dargaville High School over the last few years. We have seen some amazing growth and confidence in our Rangatahi.

With so much going on this term with school trips, wānanga, teacher strike days, sports tournaments and not to mention the business of exams we had quite a few seniors away and preparation for the festival was hampered. Therefore we decided to change it up and brought those who were available together from both kura to perform at the recent Ōtamatea Toi Festival.

This was a great opportunity to build the Tuakana Teina relationships between our kura and tauira with many from DIS heading to DHS next year. And what a great performance they had.

We are super proud of you all and are excited about what next year brings. You all performed with pride and mana and that was reflected in the huge applause from the crowd. 2026 looks bright for Kapa Haka here in Tākiwira.

Kaipara District Council Inauguration

We were grateful to be invited to perform at the swearing in of the new councillors and Mayor at the recent inauguration for the Kaipara District Council, held at Matakohe Museum.

We decided to do something extra special for the occassion and combine our Kapa Haka rōpū, Dargaville High School and Dargaville Intermediate School. And what a great show they put on.

Over the last 3 years it has been a priviledge for us to teach and guide our rangatahi. Watching them grow into awesome kaihaka that revel in the opportunity to learn waiata and haka of Kaipara and stand proud in front of the community showcasing their knowledge and skills.

Check out some of the awesome pictures that were taken on the day and the link to the Kaipara District Council Youtube Channel where you can watch their full performance.
