A driver's license open more than just your car door! For young people in Aotearoa, the ability to drive represents new opportunities to learn, work, socialise, and access the community.

This learner was stoked to get some help from Literacy Aotearoa when it came time to prepare for his learner license. Our driver education programme helps prospective drivers to understand the road rules and practice to take the the theory test, increasing their chances of success on the first try.

VACANCY - Site Coordinator/Administrator and Kaiako-Tutor (Whangarei)

Become a part of a national organisation supporting the Whangarei community to ensure the peoples of Aotearoa are critically literate and able to realise their full social, cultural, and economic potential.

Te āhuatunga a Literacy Aotearoa - About Literacy Aotearoa
Literacy Aotearoa Charitable Trust provides a range of programmes at no direct cost/free to the learner and builds on their knowledge and experiences to enhance their confidence and capabilities. Learners celebrate their successes and achievements, growing their independence, confidence and resilience.

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga - About the Role
Literacy Aotearoa is looking for a highly motivated Site Coordinator/Administrator and Kaiako - Tutor to join our Whangarei delivery site for an exciting full time (40 hours per week) role.
The Site Coordinator/Administrator is responsible for learner, programme and tutor coordination as well as administration at the local delivery site. They work closely with their reporting manager, the regional delivery team and as part of the national organisation to build strong relationships and has the ability and skills to coordinate learning opportunities for learners in the local community and in workplaces.
As a Kaiako - Tutor you will be responsible for delivering Literacy Aotearoa programmes to learners who seek to increase their literacy and numeracy competencies. Programmes and resources are provided but you will need to ensure that they match the needs of the learners you work with, and when necessary, seek alternative resources, appropriate to their needs.

He pūkenga tou - Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will be a positive and effective leader who can motivate and connect with people at all levels. You will need to be adaptable and well organised to thrive in a varied work environment. Relevant experience of coordinating staff and programmes, preferably in the community, not for profit or education sector(s), and practical experience in education management and academic practices would be an advantage. You will hold a literacy and numeracy qualification (either NZCALNE [Voc] L5 or NZCATT L4), or similar and have proven experience in delivering literacy and numeracy teaching. Experience of delivering Unit Standards is desirable.
Flexibility in tuition delivery (days and times) will be viewed favourably. Programmes are delivered in groups of learners, and face-to-face. Literacy Aotearoa is also able to deliver programmes using multiple online platforms, such as Microsoft Teams.
You will also bring:
A commitment to the kaupapa to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
Experience in engaging with Māori, Pasifika and at-risk youth in education
Knowledge and/or desire to increase the literacy and numeracy skills of adult learners.
