CHANGES TO DIA COMMUNITY OPERATIONS TEAM - HAVE YOUR SAY BY 5pm TODAY
🌿 Kōtuitui Community Development Agency is seeking support from Nelson Tasman organisations regarding the proposed DIA restructure of its Hāpai Hapori Community Operations team. Kōtuitui is asking organisations to support retaining regionally based Community Advisors in Te Tauihu, rather than moving these roles into national hubs. Volunteer Nelson is sharing this information neutrally to provide community organisation leaders with an opportunity to consider the proposal and respond if they wish. Organisations can add their name to Kōtuitui’s letter, or send their own feedback to DIA and relevant Ministers using the template and contact details on the campaign page below. Kōtuitui’s form closes at 5pm, Tuesday 6 October.

From July to September, Volunteer Nelson held two outreach sessions with English Language Partners (Nelson) students and one with a group of people at Multicultural Nelson Tasman opening new pathways into volunteering. Students learned about volunteering in Aotearoa New Zealand and found out ways to connect with their community - the Volunteer Drop-in Library sessions, Wellby Talking Cafes, and the FOUND directory. Some people were able to have one-on-one tailored sessions to find their ideal volunteer opportunity. There was a high level of interest and engagement at the sessions! If you or someone you know would like to find out about volunteering in our region, check out Seek Volunteer - https://www.volunteernelson.org.nz/volunteer-opportunities/ or get in touch with us at Volunteer Nelson.

Are you still looking for the right opportunity? Contact us via this form or QR code, and we will be in touch! or see our volunteer page for more options.

Citizens Advice Bureau Client Advisor

At Citizens Advice Bureau, we help people understand their rights and responsibilities, explore their options, and take action with confidence. We provide a free, confidential and independent service to everyone, and use what we learn from our clients to work for positive social change in our communities and wider society.
We are looking for people who are keen to help clients with enquiries about housing, employment, consumer rights, family matters and more. As a Client Advisor, you will:
work in pairs on 2.5-hour shifts, use a computer to research information and find answers, record client enquiries and the information provided, communicate effectively and listen with patience and understanding, attend monthly training sessions to keep building your knowledge and skills.
You don't need to know all the answers — we will support you with training and resources. What matters is that you are willing to listen, learn and help people in a non-judgmental way.

Isel House Needs You!

Do you love history and sharing this with others?
Isel House is looking for friendly, community-minded people who are passionate about history and keen to help share this special place. The volunteer guides open the house, welcome visitors, and share with them the story of Isel House. Isel House is open to the public October to April. Morning and afternoon shifts are available (2.5 hours each). We ask for a regular weekly shift. Training is provided.

These two are listed among other lovely volunteer opportunities up on Seek Volunteer. So even if you are not a people person, you may find something else that suits you better. Or get in touch with us at [email protected] or come and visit a drop-in volunteering information session at your local library alternating each Wednesday (Stoke and Nelson Elma Turner libraries). Find more details at https://www.volunteernelson.org.nz/volunteering-information-sessions/
