ResQ is 100% Volunteer driven. Our members come from all walks of life and contribute all manner of talent, creativity and energy to our work. ResQ simply would not exist without them.
Lisa Brideson first learned about Textile ResQ when she attended the Sustainable Gift and Craft Fair at the Victory Community Centre back in November of 2025. Interested in both handcraft and waste reduction it seemed a perfect fit.
Lisa learned to knit as a young child (approx.7 yrs) from her Nana who she spent summer holidays with for several years. As a proficient knitter, Lisa has mended a few jumpers for ResQ using the Swiss darning (invisible) technique. She has also learned new skills such as felting, embroidery and speedweaving which she has employed to beautiful effect on many garments for ResQ. While she still feels unconfident, her machine sewing skills are improving.
For Lisa the benefits of becoming a ResQ Volunteer have been threefold. She appreciates the initiative to reduce waste, creating beautiful garments and enjoys the social community she has found at the regular mending sessions.
