Invercargill Goju Ryu Karate Club Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate emphasizes a wide range of Karate techniques appropriate to all levels of training. "Ryu" means style.

The traditional framework within which training is placed provides an environment that cultivates personal strengths. Goju Ryu is one of the main traditional styles of Okinawan Karate dating back to Hoanna Kanryo (1853-1916}
Goju literally translated means hard/soft. "Go" means physical hardness and strength of character. "Ju" is the flowing techniques, flexibility and gentleness. General Benefits of Karate Training

The obvious benefit is the physical aspect , but not just "getting fit" as many people interpret a physical challenge. It is the challenge of no matter how hard you try to perfect your Karate, there is always ways that you can improve your level of performance. Personal growth beyond the physical can also occur, but it is up to the individual instructor to promote the concept. For example , Karate can produce a great deal of self confidence in a person, without promoting arrogance, if fostered in the right way.
