That’s us finished for 2025

A MASSIVE thanks to all our amazing volunteers who gift their time to help our community. This photo unfortunately does not have all those that join us as there are many more incredible helpers. None of this would be possible without them. Thank you!!!

We will be back on the 8th of February 2026

Thanks to the Hastings Bridge Club for allowing us to hire your great space
And thanks to Hastings District Council and their Waste minimisation Fund which helped us get off the ground.

See you next year!!!

Kia ora e te whànau
Come and see our amazing team of repairers at our Repair Cafe on Sunday 11th May at the Hastings Bridge Club.

Bring along your small broken household items to be repaired by our team of dedicated repair volunteers!

Our team will be able to fix clothing and soft furnishings, small appliances and electronics, furniture, knives, bicycles and scooters, toys, and other small household items. (Subject to volunteers available on the day).
Learn some repair skills, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a sweet treat.

Free entry! Koha for hot drinks, baking and any successful repair.
Small items you can carry on your own only please, and if your item is unable to be repaired, please take it away with you.

Supported by Hastings District Council's Waste Minimisation Fund.

Last entry at 3pm, to allow enough time for your repair to be completed.

Hastings Bridge Club, 911 Railway Road, Hastings. See you there!

Exciting stuff!!!

TODAY, Wednesday 19 February, is the day of the First Reading of the Consumer Guarantees (Right to Repair) Amendment Bill. To proceed to the Select Committee stage for discussion of practical solutions, the Bill requires a majority vote in Parliament.

The reading has been rescheduled for approximately 8pm-9pm. It will be livestreamed online and on Parliament TV, so you can see the debate and the vote there https://videos.parliament.nz/

You can still email your local MP, or send a quick email to Hon Andrew Bayly (the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs) here: [email protected]
Tell them to support the RIGHT TO REPAIR! Thanks to all the awesome crew working on this issue!

Phil is one of our newest members of the team but comes with a wealth of experience. He also wears many hats: husband, father, grandfather, art restorer, farmer, ag and hort lecturer, teacher, mentor, studmaster, as well as grower at Gourmet Blueberries. Despite working 60/hours a week he was still keen to share his passion, skills and expertise at the Hastings Repair Cafe.

Born and bred in Hawke’s Bay, Phil has spent most of his life farming, but early in his career he also worked as a Picture and Art Restorer, preserving and conserving art for more than a decade. He has a love of restoring antiques and works of art and was drawn to volunteering to “...share that love with others. I have always restored things and the Repair Cafe is lots of fun, meeting the different people. I have some skills and I like to share them, and teach people too.” Phil not only repairs people’s treasures but can also offer advice on their value and how to care for items and keep them working for years to come.
