Today is Penny’s last day at The WaterBoy with Lugtons, and it’s hard to put into words just how much she’s meant to this place.

Penny has poured herself into this kaupapa - showing up for our kids, their whānau, our sponsors, and our team with genuine care and belief. She’s been a steady hand, a fierce advocate, and someone who always put people first.

The impact she’s had will live on in the confidence of the young people she’s backed, the relationships she’s built, and the community she’s helped strengthen.

Thank you, Penny, for everything. The WaterBoy with Lugtons is better because of you, and we’re so grateful for the mark you’ve left.

2025, that’s a wrap.

This year we supported 174 kids to get stuck into sport, helped rehome 247 pieces of sports gear, and saw 250 students take part in Dabble Days. Across 29 different sports, kids tried new things, found confidence, and stayed connected to their communities.

None of this happens in isolation. It happens because of schools opening their gates, clubs giving their time, volunteers showing up, and sponsors backing kids they believe in.

Sport is the vehicle, but the real outcome is stronger people and stronger communities.

Thanks to everyone who played a part this year. We’ll see you in 2026.

We’ve got a young swimmer in our community with a huge goal: swimming across Lake Taupō this summer! To make it happen, she’s on the lookout for a size 14 women’s wetsuit.

If you’ve got one tucked away that you’re no longer using, it could make all the difference. Drop a message to Kids in Need Waikato, or get in touch with us and we’ll connect you!

🙏Can you help?

We’re supporting a wonderful 15-year-old with an incredible goal - to swim across Lake Taupō this summer! To help her on her journey, we’d love to provide a wetsuit for her training and the big day.

Do you have a women’s full-length wetsuit in great condition (size 14) that you could donate? 💜

We’re stoked to have support from the Acorn Foundation, which means we can now help more young people in the Western Bay of Plenty take part in the sports they love. Sport builds confidence, friendships and stronger communities, and we don’t want barriers to get in the way.

Jakob joined The WaterBoy with Lugtons back in 2021. He started boxing to get fit, but stuck with it because it gave him structure, confidence, and something to work toward. Over the years, we’ve seen his mindset shift and his self-belief grow - he’s come a long way. Check out our latest where are they now video to see how far he's come.
