Hamilton Army Cadets - HCCU

Hamilton Army Cadets - HCCU Hamilton City Cadet Unit is a part of the New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF), a youth organisation with You won't regret it!

Joining Hamilton City Cadet Unit (HCCU) could be one of the most rewarding decisions you make. As a part of the New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF), we offer a unique opportunity for youth aged 13 to 15 to get outside the classroom and learn some hands on practical skills. Our Unit provides a comprehensive 4-5-year training program that covers essential skills such as Leadership, Instructional Techniq

ue, Drill (marching), Self-Discipline, Bushcraft, Camping, First Aid, Navigation, and other exciting activities. These skills will stay with you even after you leave and are valuable for life. The NZCF consists of three Corps - Navy Cadets, Army Cadets, and Air Cadets. As a voluntary, disciplined, and uniformed youth leadership training organization, we provide an excellent opportunity to develop new skills, explore leadership opportunities, and serve the community. It's important to note that we are not part of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), but we operate under the direction of the Chief of Defence Force, on behalf of the Minister of Defence, and with the support of the NZDF and the community. We welcome new volunteers with open arms and require no prior experience. We will provide you with the training you need to excel as a member of our team. So, are you ready to challenge yourself as a volunteer or a cadet? Join us for our weekly Thursday evening parades during the school term, 6pm-9pm, and take part in activities on various weekends. Step out of your comfort zone and see what we have to offer.

If you are aged between 13–15 years old (or in year 9 at school), you should seriously consider joining the New Zealand Cadet Forces - especially the Hamilton City Army Cadets.

As it says "You don't need to know everything, you just need to start"

Cadets teaches confidence, teamwork, leadership, resilience, adventure, and friendships that can last a lifetime.

Under blue skies, strong winds, a few spots of rain, map reading challenges and plenty of laughs, Hamilton City Cadets hiked crossed the Karamu Walkway.

What stood out the most was seeing cadets step outside their comfort zones and take on challenges that some had never experienced before whilst still having smiles on their faces.

Cadets is something worth trying. It is unlike anything else you may have been part of before. There is always something new to learn, new friendships waiting to be made, and skills that will stay with you for life.

If you are aged between 13–15 years old (or in year 9 at school) and looking for something different, Term 3 could be the perfect time to start a new life changing challenge.

After all… What’s the worst thing that could happen?
You might actually love it.

You don’t truly know what you are capable of until you push yourself beyond your limits.

Over the weekend our new cadets stepped up and took on the challenge with learning drill (marching), how to care for their uniform, and what life as a cadet is really about. But it’s more than just skills… it is about confidence, discipline, resilience, and belonging to something bigger than yourself.

Challenge yourself in a way that is completely different?
Step outside your comfort zone?
Find your strength, build lifelong friendships, and gain skills that will stay with you forever?

This is your moment.

Dare to take the challenge?

It is as simple as this.
We will remember them.
Not just today… but in the quiet moments, in the freedoms we live, in the lives we get to lead because they didn’t get to live theirs.

Today we had the privilege of attending the headstone unveiling of Sergeant Adam Jack Cunningham DCM, MM, a WWI soldier awarded the Military Medal and Distinguished Conduct Medal for his bravery during the liberation of Le Quesnoy on 4 November 1918.

After serving with great courage, he came to New Zealand in 1919 and passed away in 1941, sadly without a headstone.

85 years later, alongside veterans, RSA, cadets, a choir, a bagpiper and a bugler for after the ode. We all got to honour him properly with a memorial service and the unveiling of his headstone.

Thank you for your service SGT Cunningham.

We will ALWAYS remember 🌺

Do you know what a poppy represents? Do you know why we wear them at this time of year?

Today is a humbling reminder that the freedoms we live with every day came at a cost, a cost paid by those who gave so much before us. Their sacrifice is the reason we stand here, live here, and raise our families in peace.

If you are unsure what the poppy means, please take a moment to learn. Please when you wear one, wear it with pride, with respect, and with honour.

The RSA volunteers are out there giving their time, and today it was Hamilton Army Cadets standing proudly, supporting this cause.

It is only a donation, whatever you can spare makes a difference.

We will remember.
Lest we forget.

When a new year arrives, we all set resolutions.

Some achievable.
Some push us hard.
Some we may not complete - and that’s ok!!

But what if this year you chose one challenge that ticks all the boxes boxes?

🪖Make new friends.
🪖Step out of the comfort zone.
🪖Try something new.
🪖Do something that builds you.
🪖Get to do different things each term.
🪖Wear a uniform with pride.

If your aged 13-15 or in year 12, maybe this is the year you say “YES” to something bigger than a resolution 🙌
