Maungarongo Wetland Restoration Project A project to restore the abandoned oxbow of the Waipaoa River, in Tūranganui ā-Kiwa.

The oxbow covers an area of 44 hectares, being approximately 4.5 kilometres in length and 100 metres wide and is a natural habitat to a range of native flora and fauna.

The Kōtuku-ngutupapa (Royal Spoonbill, Platalea regia) is a large, white, long-legged waterbird known for its distinctive spatula-shaped black bill used to sweep through shallow waters for fish and crustaceans.

We have harvested our first lot of kumara in our maara and have intentions to plant more.

Come along and be part of this kaupapa. All ages and skill levels are welcome – bring your whānau, your energy, and your aroha!
