When things go wrong, they go wrong quickly in the bush…
That’s why we put our team leads through their outdoor first aid course at on the weekend.
We learned a stack of interesting tips including that In reaches are less reliable when pin pointing your location than PLB’s due to using satellites that are closer to the planet.

We walked into a valley we had never been into before…
We found a bunch of young adult Whio and a couple of pairs.
We now have a crew of volunteers keen to trap the stoats in this valley to support these Whio to be able to breed.
We will soon be fundraising for traps for this project.
That’s how Whio conservation happens.

We have teamed up with of to bring to you a beautiful miniature of Kotepato Hut.
Kotepato Hut is an absolute favourite on
It was born in 1968 by deer culler Tony Shaw. It’s a comfortable 6 bunker and the hut pair of Whio are real friendly coming within arms reach a lot of the time.
has 44 traps up 4.5km of the Kotepato Stream and the two pairs of Whio living up there consistently fledge chicks each year.
It’s also a top spawning stream for trout and not a bad spot to pick up the odd deer or pig.
When it comes to fish the stream supports a population of Koaro, Short Jawed Kokopu and all three species of eel we have in Aotearoa.
In short it’s a beautiful spot and you could pick up a mini hut to remember it by with $70 of the proceeds being donated to

Our stunning enamel cups designed by are available on our website (link in bio)
At just $20 they are an absolute steal with all proceeds going towards Whio conservation.
That’s pretty cheap for a new favourite cup.

A second pack of wild dogs has been identified on the project.
These dogs have bailed up local children and pose a safety risk.
Two of the dogs have been shot but two remain.
They should not be approached.

A pack of wild dogs in the forest between Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty has sparked concerns for native birdlife and disrupted deer hunting in the middle of the roar season.
